Neurodiverse pilots groups

Post by photofly »

Is anyone aware of any support networks for neurodiverse pilots? Asking for some friends, as it were.
If you prefer, feel free to send me a PM, before the snickering gets started.

Isn't every person neurodiverse? Or is this a term for a specific form of neurosis?

For anyone wondering what neurodiverse is, I had to look it up myself.

“Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits”

“Conditions that can be classified as clinical neurodiversity include: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. autism spectrum condition. intellectual disability”

I personally don’t know of a support group but I do know someone with one of the above conditions, the drugs typically prescribed for it are on the prohibited list.

The thing is autism is a spectrum. To the point where many are very high functioning.

Piloting probably attracts a lot of low spectrum autistic people because of things like pattern recognition, organization, and routines.

Not sure if very many autistic people can make it through training.

Piloting/Aviation attracts people with a narcissistic personality disorder - seen plenty of examples over the years.

Some really extreme personalities - to the point I refused a fleet transfer at one company.

Easy to spot once you know what to look for.

That's surprising to hear. I've worked in a number of fields and pilots are by far the best people to work with.

I do mean this with respect. If you can’t see this in pilots it’s probably you.
Lol. Probably.

I don't have narcissistic personality disorder I have antisocial personality disorder: I don't care if I hurt your feelings. Lol.
