That being said, I don't think Porters wages on the Jet for training captains/line captains are anything to brag about given that only a couple handfuls of people are collecting them. The BULK of the pilot group is stuck with shitty E2 FO pay or the joke of ALL pay on the Q. My entry level FO salary is almost as much as a first year captain on the Q and double the Q FO salary. To say they need some love is an understatement. The FOs need a 100% raise and I cant see a world where that would happen.

Don't think I'm trashing the company either. I know people who work there, and a VP. It seems like a really cool company and I was interested in it years ago when I saw a recruitment presentation from one of the training captains. But the wages are abysmal. For what they are paying, I wouldnt drive to the island even if I got to turn around and drive home right away not performing any work.

I do hope you guys get a HUGE raise. It will help everyone.
Totally agree with regards to starting FO wages, BUT can you show me where in Canada, airline pilots transporting passengers on a 62T MTOW aircraft earn more than 63K YR1 as an FO? 75k YR2, 86k YR3, 108 YR5? YR3-5 anyone who has wanted to go left, will likely be left - so they'll be on a different pay scale altogether.

The problem is not Porter, but the precedent other competitors have set. I think the bulk of the pilot group has plenty of opportunity for OT right now, myself included. I'm blocked at what I requested, have my days off, and can opt for some additional work if I've got nothing going on. I'm not senior either, so if I'm seeing that, then I would imagine those above me are seeing much the same or better.

Unfortunately our benchmarking system is reactionary and does not provide future raises on present conditions. Thus far ownership has expressed interest to address this issue in July. How much of a change it'll be is anyone's guess - my feelings are that Porter will start reaching a little higher to maintain pace with AC and Westjet - at least on the jet side. Jazz is a distant memory now and Encore - I don't even know how they fit into the picture, but they'll unfortunately be the guides for the Q.

What size of operator are you working with khedrei? You seem to have a lot of concern regarding Porter's salary for someone currently out of the running. Are your pay scales pegged to Porter or are you hoping to make the jump onto the E2?

Yes, this thread opened with J.G being replaced with a former Sky pilot as VP.

Essentially top down minus one is Sky pilots and 1 Sky manager.

Thanks for clarifying, the thread didn’t make it clear that he was punted. Nothing against him, but a good move given the direction of the company. He wasn’t really qualified for DFO when it was just a Dash Op. Where did he land, if anywhere yet? (I’m not sure when this all went down).

Only a select few people know, and they haven't shared out of respect for J.G.

He's likely still in the employment transition phase, as far as I can tell, this happened quickly and without much notice.

I am a bit surprised they didn’t find another place to put the old VP, make up a new role even if just to save face for all he’s done at PD. He’s always been their biggest cheerleader and I recall him being held in high regard by the line pilots.

Pretty insensitive comment imo. John just had over 15 years of loyalty tossed out like that. Youre pretty high on the Porter Kool Aid so imagine that happening to you x15

One thing that seems pervasive in the aviation business is the idea that being in management is a ‘lifetime’ appointment. It is not.

Effective organizations evolve. Evolution means personnel change. Current PD FLT OPS managers should keep that in mind.

I’m not being insensitive. I truly feel sorry for the guy. I made a comment that things are changing.

Rudder is right. Nothing is guaranteed. And the closer you are to the fire….well….
