The Jazz pilots with September conditionals recently got upgraded to formal offers so at least for this group they are definitely following through.
How does the seniority draw work for these Jazz Sept hires? I’d their seniority determined in their Sept class? All while OTS hires get job offers after them, class starts before them and seniority numbers senior to them?

Am I missing something?
Nope, not missing anything! That is exactly how it’s working out for them.

Actually, it's a conditional offer, I've heard it's a different offer than what OTS guys are getting. Most likely they will honor the offer but you never know, nothing is 100%
I wonder if AC will actually follow through with jazz pilots starting from sep to nov, considering how much further it will deplete jazz of pilots. Unless AC is hoping to start shutting down jazz bases and consolidating staff into one or two bases. At this point anything is possible.
I think they will. Many of them got confirmed PIT dates.
Sorry for the late reply. They started with conditional offers. Then got called for confirmed dates

How many Jazz pilots will be in each class? 50% ?
Hopefully %100 after all the bs they have had to endure from both jazz and Air Canada in the so called preferential hiring/flow scheme.

Imo it'll continue for a little while yet. Still lots of 220s to arrive, followed by the NEOs if that ever happens.

dont forget the XLRs
I think that's what he meant. The XLR's are NEO aircraft. Any talk of 320 NEO's is just a rumor for now. Thought it would be nice to upgrade the aged 320 fleet. Carrying 20T of gas from YYZ to YVR on a 321 is insane. The MAX burns like 4-5T less.
What are the reasons for quick commands being available?
Not enough pilots?
Lifestyle choices?
Not enough candidates with hours, allowing those with less seniority to jump ahead?

The job doesn't pay enough for the responsibility you have.

Being at the bottom of the list sucks at any company. Years of being on reserve, working every weekend/holiday. Crappy pairings nobody wants. Missing out on family stuff…. That’s why many forgo the upgrade. It’s not all about the money. Quality of life is more important.
Many people will put in their bid, to automatically be placed at say, 75% of the list. (Or whatever) So they are just delaying until they can hold a better sched. In the meantime, those willing to be at the bottom are free to take it. However, higher seniority numbers will be parachuting in above you for quite a while…
That'll vary by the fleet and month. Looking at the Aug YZ37, there's guys in the bottom 10 positions holding blocks, versus the 319 where the bottom ~25 (12%) are on rsv. I think generally about 20% will be on rsv.

Upgrades are strictly seniority based, there's no such things as not enough hours. But not enough pilots definitely has something to do with it. Looking at the August bid, in YZ there's 155 737 Captains and only 36 FOs. They might add 15-20 FOs before the next bid, and the top ~20 guys usually stay put. For the YZ 220, there's 180 CA and 71 FOs, 44 of which have less than a year.
They've also forced lots of new hires into WB FO positions, many of which will stay there as they like the flying and have burned their WB course right.

The A350's are just a rumour. 26 A321XLR's have been ordered, the certification of the aircraft has run into delays.
There are equipment overlaps on a lot of routes but the 73M8 and 321XLR will fill different rolls. The Max flying is pretty well established at this point, while the XLR will come with lie-flat bed and provide trans-Atlantic capacity that the airline hasn't had since the 767's were retired, as well as providing replacement aircraft for its ageing 320 fleet.
