Devastating
As former Tanker pilot of 45 yrs ago, the continued struggling interior BC and NWT fires has an eerie apocalyptic stance. Media pictures are truly frightening, I have never seen such in my seventy odd years of existence. Hard to say where this is all going.

Re: Devastating
Each news story I read is harder to grasp than the last, 110 people and counting killed by a fire in Maui, whole NWT cities being evacuated, and now Kelowna. Oh and, Los Angeles may get hit by a hurricane.

Re: Devastating
For every person saying that we need to do the incredibly foolish plans our government wants us to do, just remember this…..
If we had literally shut down the economy completely at the start of Covid and kept it shut down(not one engine allowed to operate, all electrical power generation stopped, is growing our food in our back yards and not having used heat or air conditioning for the last three years)…..the weather would have been exactly the same, the same fires would have happened(except perhaps one), the same storms would have happened.
So ask yourself something…..how much are you willing to decrease your standard of living to accomplish nothing.
Whatever you do will be quickly offset by China and India among others in a very short time.
We cut off our oil production and the Saudis and Russians pocket the difference and laugh.
One could be realistic and make a transition at a pace that is reasonable and offset it with increased production until such time as the overall world consumption goes down but that is not what people are voting for.
Get ready for a long, slow decline in your standard of living which is simply offset by expensive things in the Middle East and easing the ability of Russia to purchase artillery.
Your legacy.

Re: Devastating
Could you guys just take a break, for even a couple of days? I'm just... wow.
I've got multiple relatives whom are evacuated, at least one who's lost everything and another may have lost everything; and the rest wondering if they'll have a home or community to go back to when this ends.
So yes, I have no sympathy for your petty BS about how you don't believe in climate change, or how you think there's no drought when parts of BC haven't seen average precipitation for two years or longer. Whole communities are under threat from fires that are behaving in ways never before seen, so maybe you could have a little respect for the people whom are being forced to flee and may have nothing to return to when the fires are eventually extinguished.

Hmmm. 2020 was a summer of rain in BC.pelmet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 12:50 pm For every person saying that we need to do the incredibly foolish plans our government wants us to do, just remember this…..

Re: Devastating
They have an agenda, and dont give a shit about our friends burning out, it's an opportunity to push an agenda, so they will push it. Its at times of distress like this when folks show their true colors, and this thread has some showing exactly how much of a self centered asshole they are.
Re: Devastating
Ditto what 7EACA says. Too much BS from some pushing their own agenda. Grow up kids. You are an embarrassment to the pilot profession.7ECA wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 2:51 pm Could you guys just take a break, for even a couple of days? I'm just... wow.

I evacuated at 4 a m this morning near Salmon Arm, BC and am staying with family near YYC. Don`t know when I`m going home or if there will be anything left there but ash! Take your BS and go elsewhere.

Re: Devastating
Nice replies admonishing me. But it doesn’t change what I said. If we were all broke and not putting out one bit of carbon in the air, all your evacuations would still be happening.
But hey, I am the bad guy while the rest of you make a living to (or voluntarily) pump out carbon in just about the worst industry for creating this devastation but are somehow on the high road.
I like that……pelmet is a terrible guy but don’t interfere with my carbon emissions.

Re: Devastating
Nobody mentioned anything about CO2 or global warming before you turned up with your ill-judged rant (other than rigpiggy's joke). And global warming will tend to reduce wildfires due to increased rainfall anyway. It's overly simplistic to think that hotter weather causes more wildfires.pelmet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:01 pm Nice replies admonishing me. But it doesn’t change what I said. Re: Devastating
Thread locked. While I have sympathy for those who are evacuated/ing, this is not at all aviation related.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?
