Flight training actual costs today?

If you folks don't mind me asking, what would it cost for the whole shebang from starting with a PPL in hand say 65 hours in your log book already, and going straight through CPL, and Multi IFR now in 2023?

What does a program like MRU or any of the other 2 year college programs cost from day one, to out the door diploma in hand, CPL and Multi IFR ready to hit the road looking for work?

Asking for academic reasons more than anything. I have a friend who's 16 year old daughter wants to go down this road and I'm 25 years in, so pretty out of touch with costs.

Spectrum airways quotes just shy of 60k for PPL+CPL. Throw in another 10k for MIFR.

That's actually lower than I had thought, just based on inflation but it gives me an idea of what costs are like now.

$60k-$70k is what I thought was reasonable. I think there's a lot of "colleges" out there trying to separate students from their (parent's) money.

Biggest challenge is actually finding a school to teach you. My local FTU has a waiting list for new students.

Yep, mine too. And it's a vicious circle only to get worse. No one needs to instruct any more to get a first job so there are fewer instructors. Few instructors = ...

Interesting numbers. Including the time building going from zero to cpl+mifr+ir I believe my total cost was on the order of 15K and I got the cpl in 1978. If I plug that number into the calculator you have linked, then set it for 1978 dollars, 15K becomes a tad over 70 today. I will note one big difference in requirements tho, back then when I got the Instructor it was a 12 hour course, so the rating was not nearly as expensive as today. I also took a different tack than most for building time, when I still had just a student permit, bought an Aeronca Chief which I flew till I had 200 in the book, then sold it to generate cash for doing the cpl.

I dont remember what the price of gas at the airport was back then, but I do remember that I was budgeting 5 dollars an hour to put 80/87 into the A-65 from '76 to '78, so adjust that for today and it's around $25 an hour for gas. Depending on where you are buying it, running that same engine on mogas today would run 25 to 35 dollars an hour. Mogas is the correct comparison, we bought the lower grade aviation fuel back then, which isn't available at the airports today. A big chunk of the comparatively higher fuel costs today is because we can only buy 110ll at most airports. I am totally out of touch with such things these days, can a flight school run a 150 on mogas in when in use commercially for training ?

I know at least one school that uses mogas in their rotax powered DA20.
