VFR minimums for Group 3 Test
Are there specific VFR conditions required for a group 3 ride to take place or be cancelled?

No. Any IFR ride can be done in actual as long as you have a legal alternate. So you (and the examiner) get to set the weather minima you'll use based on your experience level and aircraft equipment/capability.

If it's an IPC then the recovery from unusual attitude items need to be conducted in VMC or at a safe altitude above a cloud layer, as per AC 401-004.

Ultimately the examiner gets to decide the required weather. Some examiners won’t fly actual IFR in single engine airplanes, especially privately registered ones.

Find out who the examiner is going to be & have a chat about their minimums for a group 3.
I have done many group 3 in the aircraft to ils minimums for real in crap weather - briefed the examiner on the weather & away we went.
Lower mainland was so ugly for one ride I had to use Victoria as an alternate, examiner was ok with that decision so off we went.
Flights were out of Boundary Bay at the time.
