Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
Must be a typo, should be 230,000$…….. right?…
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
That, or they’re looking for a first officer. I definitely agree that it’s a typo. They will not find a legally insurable (Canadian) pilot for that wage.
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
Well they want 6000hrs with 1000 jet pic so probably not looking for an FO
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
No typo on the salary.
Ops Manager who still thinks we are in the 1990 with salaries. Cheap as f…k.

LMAO... Calgary, what did you expect?
It seems the salaries out in Alberta are sub what is paid in Toronto or Montreal, why?

My best guess is on housing being a lot more affordable than yyz, more desirable than yul with a better tax rate than the both of them. Younger guys want to stay in that area, they’ll do it for less.Jet Jockey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:05 pm LMAO... Calgary, what did you expect?

That being said, not many younger guys (or gals) with that kind of time that won’t already have their career job at that experience point. If they don’t or haven’t yet, there are turboprop jobs paying more than that, not to mention airline or adhoc jet gigs better than that again.
If you aren’t making at least 200k with a corporate jet job in Canada today, you need to revisit your life choices.

Irrelevant what the cost of living is in Calgary... Does the Air Canada or WestJet pilot make less if based out of Calgary vs his counterparts in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal? BTW, Montreal housing is way cheaper than Toronto or Vancouver.Minimums wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:19 pmMy best guess is on housing being a lot more affordable than yyz, more desirable than yul with a better tax rate than the both of them. Last time I looked flying a Challenger was the same job in Calgary as in the other cities, there should not be a difference in what they get paid. Winnipeg is a city where I'm sure it is cheaper to stay and live than Calgary yet salaries there seemed to be higher, hell even some flight departments in the Maritimes are now paying more than 200K... no excuse is valid for low salaries in Calgary.

Genuinely curious, where are these 200k+ jobs at? You'd be doing the industry a favour if everyone knew about these standards.Jet Jockey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:58 pmeven some flight departments in the Maritimes are now paying more than 200K

You’re not wrong, it’s the same job no matter where you live. Should renumeration be the same no matter where you live? Absolutely, but we don’t work in a unionization environment, instead it’s market demand; they’ve gotten pilots for that wage or less in the past. Cost of living for the city/area is irrelevant as you say, but it’s just not reality in this corner of aviation.
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
Any corporate super midsize jet or larger. Likely won’t see it advertised as such (it can be but rare) until you are invited to interview. More than a few postings out with that reality. That being said, fractionals or basement charter operators won’t, but they are the one’s constantly spamming the job boards or paying for advertising strips.Fly0nTheWall wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 6:40 pmGenuinely curious, where are these 200k+ jobs at? If that doesn’t work for you, apply for a dec at porter or flair, you’ll see north of 200 in only a few years.
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
I don’t think this particular add has anything to do with East vs. West. there’s high paying jobs in both places and there’s low paying jobs in both places, heck one of the highest paying corporate departments in the country is YYC based and the lowest paid wide body pilots in the world are YHM based.Minimums wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 3:14 amJet Jockey wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:58 pmIrrelevant what the cost of living is in Calgary... Just boggles the mind, as others have stated that this operator actually thought they could get someone with those qualifications for that position offering that salary. Not a good sign, major red flag and makes you wonder what other stuff they’ll try to pull.

Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
I was offered a Challenger FO spot at a management company near YYZ for $70,000/year a few years back and declined. I thought that FOs are making closer to 130K these days with the pilot shortage.

The guy has his email address on the ad. I suggest sending him an email letting him know what the industry actually pays for that position.
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
I had heard an operator on the Rock was only paying $130K for a Falcon 900EX skipper.
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
Really? If it’s the airplane I’m thinking of the previous guys were making $150k 3 years ago.

That 130k could be worth it, if the job is all scheduled flying, no on call of any kind, no non flying duties, expense account for food and incidentals on the road. 12 weeks paid vacation. And room to move up over time.

12 week of vacation?
I had a half decent owner once upon a time… 12 weeks?!? Yeah that’s never going to happen unless the airplane is down for a heavy maintenance event.
Technicolor man, your dreaming….

Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
That salary is a joke no matter how much time off. They are looking for a captain. Good luck
Re: Wow I thought salaries were on the rise
Guaranteed they find one.
Retired Airline dude who makes 80-100k a year retirement salary from the airline plus 130gs from this outfit. An old fart who can’t stay away from flying yet taking a job opportunity from a younger individual.

That old fart will show up on their first day, squeeze themselves into the left seat of that cavernous Challenger cockpit and wonder why nothing is happening.
You didn’t file the flight plans, arrange handling, do performance, order the catering, book the hotels, book the transportation, and do the other thousand jobs that you signed up for when you took your 130k corporate job, captain!
