Especially given their presence out East in the winter months. General consensus among East coasters I’ve spoken to is they’ve given up on Westjet and will go out of their way to book on anyone else. Imagine with the growth of Porter, Flair, Lynx, Pal, etc. out East, Westjet will further decrease their presence out here in the years to come.

…Porter will grow its YHZ base…we just don’t know when. The YUL/YHU base was a bit of a surprise and pushed YHZ down a notch or two in the plans. My personal best guess…2 years before an E2 base in YHZ. Several Q drivers are now commuting to YYZ on the E2. Once YOW E2 gets announced, some may choose to base out of YOW for a shorter commute.

Any updates/rumors regarding this with the reintroduction of Dublin, Edinburgh, and London out of YHZ?

There was no YHZ base when all those flights were being operated and there was a strong presence on the East Coast. This time around Westjet has a significantly smaller presence on the East Coast leads me to believe there is a zero percent chance of a YHZ base anytime soon.

On the pilot call earlier this month, Diederik said future eastern bases were being looked into after everything stabilizes. YUL and YHZ were specifically brought up. My guess is its possible after the dust settles with the Sunwing merger.

I'm sure those flights can be easily staffed by the current bases out east like YYZ and YUL

You could say that about a YWG and YEG base too. Neither of those seem to make too much sense either.

3 years ago with the previous management, the chances were lower than zero, even though we were doing significantly more East Coast flying.

With this current management group, I would say the chances are tiny bit higher than zero. Not high, but not zero. The Cost/benefit equation that the Company uses to determine if it makes sense to open a base has changed. The "we're WestJet and everyone wants to work for us and will move wherever we want them to" coefficient has been replaced with the "hmm, I guess we need to actually retain and recruit pilots to keep expanding" variable.

Whatever those values are, they have made YEG and YWG bases a reality for THIS management group when the previous bunch had no interest.

All that being said, keep in mind that most airlines can open/close bases as they please (with certain Contractual requirements for notice and moving expenses).

Which makes sense with the retreat from the east and focus on the west. YEG and YeG make sense.

Bullshit sprinkled with potpurri can still give a lot of information. It's better to have some information than it is to blindly assume that you're always funked and resign yourself to the horrors to come.
