YYZ overstaffed or are too many people leaving from other bases?
Re: New hire bids
Significant amounts of former Express YYZ flying is now done by AC/Rouge. That evolution is likely permanent.kiaszceski wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 7:56 am YYZ overstaffed or are too many people leaving from other bases?
Re: New hire bids
Darn, and when my class arrives, it's only going to be 2 spots in YVR and only Qs

Ahh that 700 hours and 172 time really sets you up for the jet doesn't it. Trashy Q is the equivalent of the Cessna 150 and definitely beneath any pilot.

Deflate your chest their buddy boy. You have maybe 6 months of flying under your belt with 480 hoursMe262 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 1:06 am480 4eng multi turbine CRM in an aircraft you'll never be able to touch but good try trollGodlvlPilot wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 8:30 amAhh that 700 hours and 172 time really sets you up for the jet doesn't it. “An aircraft you’ll never be able to touch” has got to be the funniest attempt at chest beating I’ve seen from a fresh barely wet CPL.
Already too good for the Q400. (Which you’d be lucky to fly, by the way)
Some advice for you going forward. Check your ego at the door if you don’t want to be ‘that guy’ at every company you work for, that no one wants to work with.
Re: New hire bids
YVR on the Q can be pretty good. Island and okanagan overnights. A sprinkle of seattle and portlands. Great crews. Beautiful views.
Being junior ion the CRJ at any base wouldn't be much fun. Standups and a billion deadheads. The next 13 months blocked high are going to suck for everyone though.
Its all what you make of it.

I'm guessing you're ex forces, because the only thing with 4 engines in canada that most people don't get to touch is the ancient Auroras still plodding around. Hopefully those 'CRM' skills come across in a lot better manner in person.

If you like 15-20 minute flights, 5 times per day, it’s the plane for you.
Re: New hire bids
I really enjoyed my Q flying out of YVR. Layovers were nice. Crew and ground staff were also nice.

Better than 5hrs staring at a cloud deck over the flat prairies while the captain prattles on about his 2nd ex wife!canadian_aviator_4 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 12:37 pm If you like 15-20 minute flights, 5 times per day, it’s the plane for you.

Are these deadheads on the CRJ mostly for YYC base or YVR base too?Rowdy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 03, 2023 11:55 am YVR on the Q can be pretty good. Island and okanagan overnights. A sprinkle of seattle and portlands. Great crews. Beautiful views.

Re: New hire bids
Not sure if this has been addressed earlier, but are there any YYC vacancies in the most recent equipment bids for new hires?
Thx

Re: New hire bids
Anyone know how long it typically takes to get a PFO/offer after they contact your references?

Re: New hire bids
969 line pilots at Jazz as of Nov 15. This is a company that had a 1700+ pilot seniority list after the SKV consolidation in early 2021. Not even sure if 969 pilots are enough to staff 80 fully utilized airframes. Either attrition is outpacing hiring or Jazz is simply intentionally migrating to becoming a much smaller operation.
Re: New hire bids
Still lots of pilots leaving for other companies. Flew with a few recently. Porter/WJ/Transat.
Wasn’t all about the pay either. They left due to the lousy flying schedules here.

Re: New hire bids
My understanding is Jazz is already under 80 fins for pilot staffing levels. As I said before, they have until the end of the year to fix the situation, or they can kiss next summer goodbye. At this point, it looks like Jazz will be even smaller come 2024 summer, than 2023.rudder wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 7:37 am 969 line pilots at Jazz as of Nov 15. The outright refusal to properly address the issues is just staggering to me. And it isn't just about pay (thought that is a big part of it). People are burning out constantly working 18 days or more a month. But AC refused to address any quality of life issues when they came to us with their substandard offer in the summer. So here we are, 4 months later, smaller, and trending down.
The best part is, Jazz seems to be on an instructor hiring blitz, helping to create a supply issue in the pipeline. A lot of flight schools can't even find CFI's. I don't think Air Canada is even aware of how bad the situation is, and how they are helping to make the situation worse everyday.
It is like watching an accident in slow motion. Next summer should be truly amazing.
