10 years left....

Hi All,

Hoping to recruit the collective wisdom in making a decision.

If one was trying to optimize for 1- YYC base 2 - jet time, 3 - work/life balance, 4 - income, in that order. Assuming one could choose and get any job and was starting at the bottom with an APTL. What would be a good path to try and achieve this with ten years remaining in my career.

I mean obviously Westjet. If YYC base and a jet are your top 2 that's the way to go. You'll get days off at home, travel benefits for friends and family, and you'll make a decent income. You likely won't make Captain and thus won't make the major money but you put that last on your list. Plus you'll still live comfortably in Alberta. Lynx might be a decent alternative to Westjet if your time and experience allows.

Other jet options out of YYC would be corporate, namely Air Sprint and Sunwest. However Air Sprint your are mostly away from home, and your income at Sunwest would be marginal to start. Both negative impacts to the list you provided above. Good luck with your decision.

..if you’d like a small gamble now, Porter will be opening a western base in the next few years…and YYC is easily a frontrunner.
There are already pilots and FA’s commuting from YYC, grab a number now and you’ll end your career in the left seat easily, as well as not sitting on reserve for years as a junior FO.

Canadian North ticks all those boxes, especially #3, and is hiring OTS for YYC at the moment.

Grateful for the comments. Some things I had not considered. I'll do some more investigation into those options.
