what to expect starting day1

Post by Avnom »

Hello guys and gals,
I should be starting soon for my groundschool.
I'll be based out of YTZ, and wanted to know what to expect from there. Mainly;
-should i get a crashpad from day 1 or is it only a few days in toronto then online courses ?
-how long is the groundschool?
- and advice on crashpad VS shared appartment ?

thank you :D !

Hello, welcome onboard!

If you're commuting by car then i'd say wait it out and see how bad the traffic is, consider in that case a classic crash pad. If youre planning to commute by air then i highly reccomend you get as least expensive a room as you can find within a reasonable uber ride distance from the airport. you will be on reserve for a quite a while unfortunately, and quite a while longer before you are able to bid for a resonable "commuter friendly" scheduel. While on reserve there will be many days where you will not get called out , having a room in town will help your quality of life.

Welcome to the team!

Agree with what NightDash said above. I would definitely recommend a room for the first year within at least driving distance of YTZ. Plan for a 3 week in person ground school, about 3 weeks of CBT/Sim, and then about 3-4 months of line indoctrination. From there, it's currently about a year of reserve in YTZ before you'll be able to hold a schedule. Living close to base will do wonders for your QOL in the first year.

Montreal commute is probably one of the better ones, ottawa probably being the best. From YUL there are many options in and out of toronto. If you plan on commuting in then you better off leaving your car behind as the parking hassels in YTZ are not worth your time and money. Much cheaper to just uber it or take public transit. having a room not too far away will be your best bet even if you don't use it that much, it will be a worthwhile expense.

Awesome guys , thank you for the inputs.

And the 3 weeks. Are all at Toronto? Or home studying too?
