Electronic Log Book

Post by Limit Switch »

Greetings AVCANADA,

Im a long time lurker, but a first time poster, and I thought it was time to give a little back to a splendid community.

After reading the thread about what you would have to do if you lost your log book and had no backup, I realized that many people keep an electronic copy. "what an awesome idea," I thought, and I figured I could easily find an excel spreadsheet on the net somewhere. It was not so easy. So I decided to make one myself, the only problem was that I had no experience with excel.

Luckily its pretty simple, and after I got off my lazy ass, I threw a very basic electronic log book together. I based it on the generic log books that are sold by V.I.P. This electronic copy will automatically add the totals for the following: Grand total, Total SE, Total ME, Total Instrument, Total Cross country.

I encourage those with a more advanced understanding of excel to improve upon this spreadsheet. I made this with the intension that any and all may use it, as long as it remains free.

Feedback is always welcome.

Here is a much more condensed version of an electronic logbook that was sent to me by Jason. " I designed it with a few additional features including totaling times on type, times in certain time periods (30 days, etc) and it's all formatted to print on 8 x 11 sheets for hard copies." Thanks Jason for a very nice electronic log book.

*added a blank column for float time, jet time etc.
**added a column for take offs, landings and approaches

That is great to see a log book that is easy. Only thing I saw was that it is missing the colums for seaplane time, complex and one for CFI. Overall, it is a good start and one I will keep and share. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I updated the electronic log book with a blank column, much like the VIP one has. Hope that is of some use to you.

Lots of outfits need takeoffs and landings (day and night) and precision/non-precision approaches, especially if you are CBAA or FAA, to track currency. Oh yeah, a simulator column.

Good idea.
