Canwest Air
Hello all,
What is the pay, schedule, hours flown per year and bond for a FO and CPT on the King Air. What are the CPT upgrade requirements?
Thank you!

Re: Canwest Air
Pay ranges from about 45k, up to a little north of 100k. Where you fall in that range will depend on total time, relevant experience, etc. FO's work 2 weeks on, 1 week off. Capt are either 1 week on, 1 week off, or 2 weeks on 2 weeks off depending on base. Hours flown depends on base too, anywhere from 300-800 per year. Captain requirements are ATPL, 2000TT, 500 multi and min 100hr line indoc. Bond is a hard sell though at 2 years and 40k
Re: Canwest Air
Just into from 3 friends who used to work there " after Jake died, the place changed, and not for the better"
Re: Canwest Air
I'm not sure that Jake had much to do with the day to day hiring of pilots. He was the figurehead at Canwest for the Mennonite Mafia that put the company together to get the AB Gov't medi vac contract $$$$$$$$. But yes the current reign isn't so good.
Re: Canwest Air
Anyone have input on how it is to work for them now as King Air FO?
Re: Canwest Air
As far as medevac jobs go, I'd say it's a pretty good gig. The king air side of things at canwest is a pretty legit operation. They have nice airplanes (new in 2017, proline fusion, a bunch of upgrades), lots of resources around the province such as AMEs at most of their 8 bases, hangars at all 8 if you need to wait out weather or just don't want to freeze your ass off in the airplane waiting for your patient, crew cars at every base, etc. For a 703, they have a really in depth training program even though it's largely a one man operation by the CP working his ass off. Their AB health contract requires pilots to go down to sim in Tampa which doesn't suck either. Also theres always day pilots and night pilots for any given airplane which is really nice so you're not just doing min resets and that way you get some consistency to your sleep schedule too. A less desirable aspect would be that you'll likely get sent up to one of the northern bases (at least until southern bases open up) but theres a lot of good guys at all the bases to help pass the time between flying
Re: Canwest Air
Thanks bueno, good info! I’m hearing a few things about management team not being the best, do you have any insight on that and how it would affect the quality of the job?
Re: Canwest Air
KNZ - The management team at Canwest is top notch, they work extremely hard to ensure they look after their employees. With that being said they have high expectations of their people as well. I have seen different platforms with people making bash posts about the management and it is disappointing. I assume it’s mostly from pilots that have completed their recurrent training and give their notice a week later. Doesn’t matter where you work when people pull those kinds of moves management isn’t typically impressed. All I can say is it has been a great place to work with great support from the management and skippers. If you have a chance to join the organization I would highly recommend it.

Top notch in what way? If my experience as an applicant is any indication of how they run the day to day operations it’s disorganized and little ambition from the higher ups.newt82 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 27, 2024 7:54 pm KNZ - The management team at Canwest is top notch, they work extremely hard to ensure they look after their employees. From what I've heard, you may as well go to Encore, atleast there you're not bonded for your first born, and can leave whenever you please.

Re: Canwest Air
Just had a request for an interview, on site, from out of province. I suggested we interview via computer first. It wasn't indicated SIM was involved in a few back and forth emails. They cancelled. And before it's suggested I don't know how Canadian aviation works, that's exactly why I wanted to confirm actual interest before I drove for days. I tend to get interviewed a lot for show.

Two questions:elainemorrison wrote: ↑Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:45 pm that's exactly why I wanted to confirm actual interest before I drove for days. I tend to get interviewed a lot for show.
1) Why the need to have “them” show you an additional interest after they showed interest in you?
2) “I tend to get interviewed a lot for show”. What do you mean by that?
Respectfully,
TPC
