I agree bots should be disabled. I have seen in pprune up to 200 pilots and flight attendants were fired at JetBlue after the company compared employee schedules to the time stamp when they picked up. If the time stamp was when they were flying, they obviously violated Flica rules by giving someone else or a bot their user credentials.
Unless you have reliable ultra fast wifi on board?
I’m curious, do you have a policy about nonessential use of the internet in the flight deck?
I think most do, it falls under the same category as reading a newspaper up front, not allowed. So, if this policy is in place and you log in to Flica when you should be flying, that’s a sure way of getting a reprimand or worse, fired for intentional noncompliance.

Sounds pretty company related to me, which we’re allowed to do.

Also, newspapers lol. They still make those?

Showing my age again, I suppose the kids probably download their news nowadays.
I should have said flight related but nonessential typically means not related to the flight. I would probably ask your CP if they consider checking for OT during flight an acceptable use of the in flight internet.

So are airlines in Canada and CAE doing anything to stop bots, because based on how difficult it still is to pick up, the bots are still being used?

The CP and/or the company would probably say yes :P At least at porter, as long as it doesn’t distract you from your duties. But cruise flight is a very low workload period.

But I get your point.

Our COM section 3.7.7 states we can access non-operational reading material provided we follow the Flight Deck Reading Material guidance in section 3.7.8.

We have to stop our personal texting and have all electronic devices in airplane mode 15 minutes prior to departure. The COM states clearly when and what is allowed to be 'read' on the flight deck during non critical phases of flight provided the other pilot can carry out duties of the reading pilot. We currently do not have access to any restricted internet access for real time weather or communications with ops however I'm sure its being looked at with different tech always being reviewed.

I think the willful non-compliance of the COM would be something one would want to avoid being in violation of!

Absolutely, gets a bit trickier with the days off requirements on either side of the reserve block but is doable if you are not commuting. You could still if you had to commute, however the days left in the month may be too small to make it worthwhile.

Can anyome here give tips on how to pick up overtime on flica. I'm new to westjet and could use some. I use alerts on flica but it seems like everypairing is already spoken for even if it's 1 or 2 mins after the alert. I understand some use bots and boo on them but the rest any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure you're getting the alerts to your WestJet email and not your Gmail. Gmail doesn't "push" the emails instantly like Outlook does, so you'll have no chance. Most open times are being picked up less than a minute after the alert, so be ready to drop everything when it comes through and get onto Flica. Even then you'll still miss out on a lot, luck of the draw. It's sad that it's come to that, but open time is a lot more scarce since CA2. Doesn't seem like ALPA is able to do anything about the Bots, and WJ couldn't give two Fs as long as the flying is being covered.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the goal to work less, isn’t that the point of CA2?

Having cracked the top tax bracket I feel the amount Trudeau steals from me to pay for grifters and the less productive make overtime a lot less worth it. Those who still have mortgages on their million dollar cookie cutter houses can have my overtime.

Even alerts don’t work. Best and only way is to have Flica open all day and apply when a pairing comes up. Trade off is you have no life.
