We need to get even more retired AC pilots to join TC to help improve safety. It is also my plan when I retire.
We need AC pilots to make enough money so they can retire. Period
"Retiring" then going back to work = giant fail and quite frankly, sad
Hopefully you got some hobbies, kids, things to do outside these metal contraptions. Geeze

HR is probably doing ritual dances and sacrifices praying that people with more experience apply.
No doubt they are scratching their heads and wondering where the 5000 and 6000 hour pilots with large airline command experience and jet time went.
But I doubt they are doing a single thing about it other than yelling the board that they are hiring another McManager to analyse the trend.
The word is that the significant reduction in experienced applicants and high failure / ATO rate occurring on both initial training and upgrade training at AC has piqued the interest of Transport... that, along with the C grade from ICAO on our air transport oversight has put Transport in a position that thet are now pressuring AC to raise the experience bar of their new hires.
Expect to see less hiring as AC scales back class sizes in response. Of course they won't raise pay to attract and retain more experienced applicants in the immediate term. Asinine and obstinate as always, I expect this will result in the persistence of the staffing and training crisis and the continued bleed of service and market share to our competitors, at least until the ACA Pilots' contract demands are achieved which will correct much of the deficiency.
Rooting for the low timers currently in the interview mix, but know if it doesn't happen at this moment it's because there are other factors at play.
I hope this is true because I just got a PFO today. After 8 weeks despite of BG and ref checks were done.

I don't know your particular application obviously, but I know what's going on. Historically, other than military, it's unreal to even be in the room at your total time. Keep the faith brother.
Hi Guys,story saver
Those in my circle who received a PFO typically received a response within approximately three weeks. For those who waited longer than a month, it turned out to be a positive sign as they eventually received a call.

Are you suggesting waiting until you hit at least 3000tt?
I applied when I had 250 hours. I figured it was good to show a history of applications. Eventually hired at 8000 hrs though I didn't apply between 250-6000.

Sorry to hear that. Usually a PFO is due to the interview not talking about safety enough. I've heard one needs to preach "Safety safety safety is the number one priority!"

not true, a lot of people got PFO'd even after 8 weeks, I've seen one getting PFO'd on the 14th week.

No. I would apply the day you hit the minimum requirements listed on their employment site. I just wouldn't expect to get hired at the minimum.
Total experience is an issue right now. AC is reactive and right now they are reacting to Transport's issues with their training record. I understand that a March ground school has been cancelled. They can't fill it with guys with high enough time to satisfy the regulator they are doing something about it.
AC denies that there's a pilot shortage, but it's clear that there is an experienced pilot shortage... at least an experienced pilot shortage willing to work for the pay and future currently on offer.

I wonder if TC inspectors were offered a starting wage of $58k - total 4 year earnings under $290k - and no DB pension plan if there would be a shortage of ‘experienced’ applicants?

With one of the Feb gs's being only half full and a March gs being cancelled due to not enough qualified candidates, there are apparently rumblings from the training dept about dropping the ATPL requirement.
Obviously this logic goes directly against TC eyeing things more closely and challenges with candidates lacking experience, but I wouldn't put it past management at this point. If they can't fill every gs and play the "look how many people want to be at AC even with the current pay" card anymore, the only thing left is lowering hiring standards even more. ...because of course increasing pay is unthinkable.
I do think there are many people with a higher degree of experience that are currently just holding out to see how the negots unfold and if the new contract is worth it. The financial sacrifice likely isn't worth it for them at the moment and there hasn't been much positive news coming out of bargaining, so nobody knows where this is headed right now.

Let em, there goes their entire "we have no problem with hiring" mantra.

Anyone hear of ppl getting calls recently? lots of Jazz folks through the interview now, odd they wouldn't fill those empty classes up...
Yes for April G/S we are only hiring 600 ish pilots this year..... ground school's will be lumpy, training dept is a max capacity.... the company doesn't want to pays guys to sit at home for 2 months while they wait for their training after pit to begin. People are saying they can't fill classes I call B/s.... last ground schools had everything from E2 Porter FO's to Swoop and Sunwing Captains taking a pay cut to come here......

"Only 600" you realize that's 50 a month right? Latest Feb gs had 22, March already cancelled. I think most that wanted to be at AC regardless are on property now, yes a few will always continue to trickle in. But if they actually want to hit that target, pay needs to go up asap.
Jazz is at a huge pilot deficit, they can't bleed anymore guys with the required experience.

The word was that the plan is to run fewer larger ground schools rather than more smaller classes. Over the last few years they have run classes of 40. Who knows if that is accurate.
There will be a wake up for some once we return to normal hiring. 600 a year is still a whole helluva lot.
Training is at max capacity. I get displaced once every pairing because of training (which I'm more than ok with ). The 'rumblings' of dropping the ATPL requirement are just that. A lot of people say they can see it, I personally don't. Given the problems in additional training requirements and upgrade failures due lack of experience, I don't see them dropping the requirements to a level below ATPL. This also solves nothing. You'll get the same problem as Jazz with future FO's unable to ever upgrade without the A's. All it takes right now is once incident/accident involving a low time pilot with no ATPL to trigger TC dropping Thor's Hammer down on AC.

Which March date was cancelled? Are they still running classes every 2 weeks?

Oh I agree 100%, it's pure stupidity to even suggest it. The point I'm making is that management is once again demonstrating that they're willing to go to any lengths rather than deal with the real issue: pay your employees fair wages.

No. It was mentioned in the last webinar that a March groundschool was cancelled and may continue some months moving forward.
