And the lawyers will argue AC refused any attempt at actually dealing with the real problem, and attempted to end round a labour group. And then when Jazz and the pilots did reach an agreement, AC said no. The entire CPA is structured in a way that is designed to keep labour costs down, as there is zero profit in the CPA that goes to Jazz. Also the ALPA lawyers will argue that AC failing to follow through on flow, helped to create the labour issues at Jazz.Inverted2 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:58 amAnd Air Canada could argue they had to because Jazz can’t keep or hire pilots while at the same time Air Canada is/was dead set against giving Jazz pilots a proper industry competitive wage increase and intervened which is why we are in this mess we are in!truedude wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 9:47 amIt is before the CIRB now. Re: YYC Base
It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I don’t see Jazz being flooded with resumes anytime soon though. Sure they will be able to hire 250-500 hour wonders but that will be it. We are still losing pilots to Porter/WJA after the new pay scales.

Re: YYC Base
I 100% agree, which means AC isn't taking the issue seriously. It is like they entered negations from a, "what is the minimum we can offer that will pass," "instead of, what do we need to do to rebuild our regional network."Inverted2 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 06, 2023 10:10 am It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. If it is next summer they hope to save, they will now shorty that this is not working, and will need to come back with more money. I hope anyways.

PAL is doing YQX, YDF, YYR and YOW as of the November AC schedule, on top of the YYT run which will be up to 4 daily flights.

Looks like another union is going to file a CIRB complaint. At this rate, AC can have a lawyer take up permanent residence at the CIRB offices, as it looks like they will be busy for sometime.TheStig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:42 am https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfound ... -1.6959984

Wasn’t jazz supposed to be the sole service provider under the air canada express tag? Wasn’t that one of the pillars of the deal that was signed for 17 YEARS? What is Jazz ALPA doing about this? Why is the Jazz pilots accepting that meh MOS? Seriously grow fn backbone but all I see is shrugged shoulders from the majority.

The exclusivity was only ever until the end of 2025 for aircraft in the 70-78 seat range. So on the day we ratified their “meh” offer, ALPA National, on behalf of the JAZ MEC launched a ULP(Unfair Labour Practice) complaint with the Canadian Industrial Labour Board.
It would be very extreme for the Canadian Industrial Labour board to order AC to shut down the PAL deal. More likely an order for no more PAL type stuff (and no more than the previously agreed to 6 tails for PAL) until the end of 2025, when our exclusivity expired anyway.
Beyond 2025 there is another guarantee of at least 80 tails in the 70- 78 seat seat range.
Not sure what else more than a ULP we can do to prove we have a backbone in your eyes. Then again I don’t really give a f!ck what you think, Mr. Anonymous internet person

Vote no.
Re: YYC Base
You going to pay my mortgage when AC decides we are in default of our obligations to staff our aircraft and blows up the whole CPA? We weren’t even in open bargaining and AC offered us a deal worth over 45 million a year?
Look after your own issues at whatever airline you work for, our bargaining realities as a CPA carrier in Canada are far different than yours

So much for the ‘temporary’ nature of the PAL CPA.TheStig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:42 am https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfound ... -1.6959984

Seems like uniform is planning to challenge the federal labour law about the right to follow the work for the same pay, hopefully they are successful!rudder wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:24 pmSo much for the ‘temporary’ nature of the PAL CPA.TheStig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:42 am https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfound ... -1.6959984

Good! Maybe if all the unions make ACs management's life miserable, and the board starts asking questions, they will start to decide this war on all fronts isn't worth the effort, or a good business strategy.cdnavater wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 6:18 pmSeems like uniform is planning to challenge the federal labour law about the right to follow the work for the same pay, hopefully they are successful!rudder wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:24 pmSo much for the ‘temporary’ nature of the PAL CPA.TheStig wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:42 am https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfound ... -1.6959984

Re: YYC Base
Obviously this forum tends to focus on pilots, but the "never let a crisis go to waste" mantra is being seen here as a way to furlough airport staff as well. From my experience with them Jazz airport personal have all been first rate but from a Bean Counters perspective, no doubt more expensive than their non-union peers at other carriers.

Back to the origin of this tread…
Are there any Q400 vacancies currently/ projected at the YYC base, and is there any hiring for the YYC base in the short term?
Thanks

Re: YYC Base
Yes, for the foreseeable future YYC Q400 seems to be the junior spot at Jazz for new hire initial classes. Last 6 classes in a row have had at least 4-8 YYC Q400 positions for new hire FOs.
New class starts today so will know tomorrow what positions available.

Re: YYC Base
There were around 7 in the previous groundschool, and I’ve read on other topics that there will be more to come in the next groundschools.
Re: YYC Base
Seems like the YVR CRJ train just stopped with the last ground school and YYC CRJ train is just departing. Yet all trips start as a deadhead. It must be for all those Capt drivers who would jump ship to WJ as soon as the YYC CRJ would close.

Re: YYC Base
To any of the YYC Q400 FOs out there: are you all flying a full block? (Specifically: Is there a shortage of Captains that is limiting the amount of flying available to FOs like at Encore?)
thanks in advance

Re: YYC Base
Whats the updates on YYC base. Q or RJ doesn't matter. Are they looking for staff?
Re: YYC Base
Looking for staff is not base specific. As it stands now, there is not much flying out of YYC so a lot of the pairings will start and end with a DH. YYC is typically the "entry portal" along with YVR for Q new hire classes. Vacancies created in YYC end up being back filled by the new hire cohort. There are also a number of FO's that "commute" from YYZ to YYC as they are senior enough on the YYC roster to hold the DH pairings that take them to YYZ.Dustymcdust wrote: ↑Thu Sep 11, 2025 6:30 am Whats the updates on YYC base. Re: YYC Base
Really? They’re still hiring for YYC? Or are they keeping the YYC people still based there? I heard YYC is a dying base: perhaps you can share the latest base bid and transfers/vacancies?prop2jet wrote: ↑Thu Sep 11, 2025 10:46 amLooking for staff is not base specific.
