We are confirming an important development in our growth with the opening of three new

E195-E2 Pilot and Cabin Crew bases; Ottawa (YOW) effective June 2024, Montreal (YUL) effective July 2024, and Vancouver (YVR) effective October 2024.

This decision is grounded in several key considerations, with a primary focus on providing more opportunities for our crew and supporting Porter's expansion. Last year, we asked for your feedback on where you want to see new crew bases, which allowed us to identify stations that align with our growth strategy.

The strategic location of these new bases enhances our operational recovery during IROPS, providing increased recovery options. Our commitment to growth in YOW and YUL is underscored by the introduction of crew bases in these stations.

Information on the bidding process will be available in the coming weeks.

We extend our gratitude for the dedication and hard work each one of you contributes to Porter's success. We look forward to embarking on this next chapter together.

Considering Porter will need pilots for the foreseeable future, it's probably good press and a relevant memo to publicly publish before it goes public.

On another note, this is great news. I suspect a stack of resumes from Jazz, Flair and Lynx (soon to be Flynx) will appear on Porter's desk in the coming months.

Are there proposed routes out of each base?

I’m almost certain porter wanted this to get out to the pilot groups ASAP. The amount of people messaging for references already is staggering.

YUL E2 base will attract many e-jet endorsed applicants from Jazz.

YVR E2 base will get applications from Jazz CRJ pilots (local) but there are no e-jet pilots in YVR.

YOW E2 base will get applications from both e-jet and CRJ pilots from Jazz.

The exodus will continue because Porter is offering a better pay package than Jazz. However, my guess is that Porter is equally or more interested in DEC or high time jet FO’s from Flair/LYNX/CargoJet/Morningstar. Will likely also attract interest from some of the 737 operators in YUL.

Announcing three new bases certainly gonna disrupt the industry. I think you are correct, there’s only so many you can coax to YYZ. And porter is for sure expecting the ones on the fence at above mentioned airlines to make a life decision.

At this point ATPL pilots, with jet or 705 experience are generally easy candidates to train, doesn't really matter from where. E1 pilots aren't a huge deal anymore - yes they shorten the training by a week and their transition is guaranteed, but the training program has refined into a well oiled machine with nearly 50 full time instructors.

If you’re a Q400 captain they’re paying a cash bonus and matching YOS pay.

That was as of July 2023. Not sure if they’re still doing it. Q400 only. Other dash 8 models aren’t eligible

I fly the dash so I’m not really sure. I’m sure DukeNukem or one of the other E2 pilots will be able to weigh in.
They seem pretty content for the most part

14-16 days a month. Roughly 85-90 credits. Flying is generally good. Some shit layovers but other decent ones. Depends what you want I guess.

Don’t know much about reserve life but I think people are holding blocks fairly soon after line check.

I’ll second this. Some of the layovers, especially the ones I’ve had in Florida I’ve noticed, are way too short. Throw in the fact that too many of the pairings are still 5 days and it can get quite exhaustive by the last bit of the trip.

I’m sure the fact that trainers only took 1 of the 5 day pairings next month won’t ruffle any feathers…
