Direct Dash captain
Hey so I currently have about 500 hours as an fo on an atr and am presented with an opportunity for left seat on a king air 300. I know the direct requirements from the website but I know there’s some room for change within them.
Could I get some advice if I should take the kind air job or continue with the atr and start fo on the dash first.

With the limited information you have provided, your application for DEC will not be entertained.Bryce55 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 11:18 am Hey so I currently have about 500 hours as an fo on an atr and am presented with an opportunity for left seat on a king air 300. How could you possibly believe that with only 500 hours in the right seat of a dissimilar type that you would have the experience or skills to be able to be a direct entry captain on a new type at a new airline flying new routes?
I recognize that my response will come off as rude. I believe that sometimes a slap in the face is the best reality check to reset one's expectations.

Not whatsoever. I just think it hilarious that someone with little to no operational experience or has ever been on a hiring committee for an airline is now giving advice.

Re: Direct Dash captain
This whole thread is weird.
500hrs right seat on an ATR, and asking about DEC on a Q400. To be a serious question, there's gotta be a ton of experience that's not stated.
Even for left seat King Air, there's gotta be more to this story that we're not being told.
I don't know what Porter wants for DEC, but I'm sure it's many hundreds if not thousands of hours PIC on transport category airplanes. To the OP, maybe entertain the idea of Porter DEC a couple years after upgrading on the ATR. It only makes sense for them to want to see that you've already successfully done a similar job when they're risking it with someone they don't know. Porter DEC is simply not going to be your first 705 command job.
A King Air, especially the 300 is a lot to keep on top of. 500hrs as an ATR FO is not much time, I'm hoping there's more that we're missing here. A bucket load of experience (floats, PC-12, Caravan, instructor even) on top of the ATR would make this story more logical.

Re: Direct Dash captain
Let's redirect this thread by providing more information. Since Porter specifies two requirements, let's get those numbers out so that we can give you proper advise.
Total time:
PIC on Turboprop > 44,000 lbs Time:
Re: Direct Dash captain
Unless you’re close to 4500-5000 hours TT it’s probably be faster for you to join as an FO and get the 500 on type to upgrade provided you already have 1500-2000 hours TT.
Re: Direct Dash captain
PICUS will not be weighed heavily in hiring PIC requirements. Especially such a small number of hours. 100 hours of PICUS on an ATR won’t be enough for DEC on a Q400. You’d need to actually upgrade and log 500+ hours of PIC time to be considered. BE300 PIC time with 500 hours in an ATR is possible. I know someone who came as DEC with about that much Dash 8 100/300 time and the remainder PC12 PIC but didn’t get a call back until he had an updated application with 5000 TTBryce55 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 6:19 pmdontcallmeshirley wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 7:49 amWith the limited information you have provided, your application for DEC will not be entertained.Bryce55 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 11:18 am Hey so I currently have about 500 hours as an fo on an atr and am presented with an opportunity for left seat on a king air 300.
