dontcallmeshirley wrote: Sat May 04, 2024 7:54 am According to this super reliable website, $28.47 per hour. If we assume 40 hours per week, that's a bit under $57,000 per year.
So FO wages
Let's not continue to normalize crap wages as "FO wages."
Sorry, should have added the rolling eyes

That's like asking when Grey's Anatomy will be cancelled. We don't know, but it's probably going to take a long friggin' time!

Some important considerations in the next contract all pilots should think about for the next 10 years...

With all the government corrupt spending, is inflation going to continue to increase? Also will taxes be lower or go higher over the next decade? You might think a 20 or 40 percent raise is ok, but be prepared for government to keep taxing you more and more and providing less. It's going to take a huge raise just to keep up with the shenanigans.

A more important consideration might be, how to escape Canada. Find yourself an out because our government is working to make your life worse, and it could be a disaster for the next generations.

The annual bumps should be tied to inflation or CPI. I don't know why most contracts do don't do that.

This afternoon, there was an MEC and Negotiating Committee virtual town hall to provide an update on negotiations. I presume the question was regarding that townhall.

Great townhall. Quite long. Just straight up Q & A.

Really enjoying getting to know our leaders through these sort of events. Well done

The news is that there is no news.

We are close to a possible turning point in negotiations as the MOA ends in the next few weeks. How the company responds over the next few weeks is up to them.

They know by now what it will take to make a deal. It’s up to them to cut that deal or instead use provisions within the labour code.

Whichever path Air Canada chooses, we will all know about the exact same time.

Personally I would be surprised if impasse wasn’t declared and the countdown to strike wasn’t started within the next 4-8 weeks. But that is just my personal guess.

81-96 days after notice is given. There is a 15 day period that the government has to appoint a conciliatory for conciliation. That is why there is a spread in those numbers.

The earliest we can declare an impasse is June 1 which provides 14 days notice before we can exit mediation.

So June 15+(81->96) days. At the earliest.

Neither.

The CBSA is law enforcement and therefor an essential service. The labor board will have already dictated what is required for maintenance of service.

When the CBSA resorts to self help an all out strike will be off the table as a result. They will be limited to work to rule activities which are legal after 72 hours notice is given.

IOW expect very long lines.

my thinking was if lines are long and travel is hell people might not travel as much. I know when luggage was being delayed/lost it turned people off from travelling

Keep in mind, we are negotiating against 12+ YOS pilots on the company side. The people we negotiate against have a vested interest in keeping the money at the high end of the scale, as it benefits them.
