Re: Beaver gbzh red lake crash
From Canadian Press:
Five people were injured, two seriously, after a float plane crash in northwestern Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police say the plane went down Sunday morning in Red Lake, a municipality about 430 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay. Police say they received a report of a crash shortly before 7 a.m. They say three people have minor injuries, and all were taken to hospital for treatment. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada says the De Havilland D-H-C-2 Beaver aircraft was operated by Canadian Fly-In Fishing Service. The board says it will be deploying two investigators to Red Lake to investigate the crash.

I believe the only thing that is needed for an aircraft to be salvageable is the data plate, it just comes down to how much money one is willing to spend. Considering it's a Beaver, I would expect someone will get it back in the air.pelmet wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 5:08 amIs that salvageable? Data plate will be intact, so it will fly again. It may or may not be attached to some of the other components in that photo. The airframe will most likely end up at one of the shops that do conversions and modifications, who will turn it into a turbo beaver, or who knows, maybe it'll end up in YBL and become a diesel beaver.

You guys are twisted weirdos. The people are in the hospital and you are planning a rebuild.?
Re: Beaver gbzh red lake crash
Yeah, fair observation... It's sadly ironic, that privacy makes it a little difficult to discuss the condition of the occupants, other than to offer kind thoughts. But, the inanimate, iconic airplane, known for being rebuilt from a data plate is up for discussion. I've been on all sides of this topic as various points in my life, so we can tread easy, but yes, we won't forget the occupants, who are having a difficult time in life just now....The people are in the hospital and you are planning a rebuild.?
The thing I think about with the occupants would be the possible difficult wait to be rescued and get to hospital. For myself, I have had several occasions in life to be very appreciative that when I was involved in an accident (both cars and airplane), on each occasion not only was there someone there to help right away, but better yet, it was friendly faces! I'm very empathetic to being injured, and worse, maybe having to wait hours to be found and rescued. The "golden hour" (in the medical sense) is a thing.....

Re: Beaver gbzh red lake crash
The days of rebuilding an airplane from a data plate are long gone in my opinion. You guys literally have no clue how hard it is to track down Dehavilland parts these days. Also I wish a speedy recovery to the people involved in this accident.
Fly safe.
Fly safe.
Re: Beaver gbzh red lake crash
That Beaver crashed hard.
That damage isn’t from a dug float or a cartwheel.
Amazing there weren’t any fatalities.
Hope everyone makes a full recovery.
Will be a long road for some for sure.

Yes I agree.
This is Beaver serial # 1518 built in 1963. According to Neil Aird’s site it has no known accident history and is relatively low time. Doesn’t Viking hold the TC for these aircraft and can manufacture new parts? A very expensive rebuild for sure but certainly doable for the right shop.

Good to know. Glad to hear that it will likely fly again.goldeneagle wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 7:43 amData plate will be intact, so it will fly again.
