So, for clarity, you get sick days and each sick day is only worth 4 credit? A single day book off uses a “sick day” regardless of how much credit your flying was supposed to be? How many sick days per year?
I’m trying to wrap my head around this, at Jazz we are awarded 85 credits into our sick bank on January 1st, this is equivalent to a month of sick time, however if you book off on high credit pairings every couple months you could use up your sick bank faster.
This seems quite ludicrous and certainly is incentive for a pilot to work sick!
Basically yes. We get 10 paid sick days a year, plus 3 personal days for funerals/ sick family members etc and only min credit of 4 hours per day, so max of 52 hours of sick pay per year. The Jazz system is definitely better, not sure it's worth the 6 figure pay cut though.

Thanks, no job is worth starting over in reality, hopefully we’ve seen the last closure and we all keep making gains.
That sick policy is punitive, sounds like Porter is the same.
In a system like that, I would check in for my red eye, do the first leg and book off from there, that would send a message pretty quick if you all did that.
Take er easy!

That’s what MMG is all about. Honest question as I don’t know the answer… Do all the other airlines in Canada give you your full credit if you call in sick?
Yes
Book offs at Porter are not credit protected and you’ll only get 4 credits per book off.
There was a FOAG revision about this effective in August 2024. We made progress, others haven’t.
The company has shown they are willing to look at all aspects regarding pay and QOL. Sick days will be paid at scheduled credits
Effective August, also 13 GDOs a month, up from 12.

Everyone gets the 5 personal days for taking care of their family. This is a federal law. So saying “flair” gets it as an add on is politician talk. Every employee in Canada is entitled to 5 personal days per year ,3 paid, 2 unpaid

Don't forget that those 3 "paid" personal days are not actually paid unless you are under MMG (75 credits). This is how management is interpreting a paid personal day. It only adds credit to bring you up to MMG.

I have a lot of comments regarding this post. As someone who has seen hundreds go through exactly what you are thinking in your brain, I’ll let you stew on your own interpretation of your work contract and federal law.
That’s good info for us to work with on the next contract. Sounds like Flair is not the only airline in Canada that has not automatically fully credited sick days from day 1. Good to hear Porter is getting this resolved in August. Hopefully Flair won’t be far behind
