Is Air Canada just a 703 Operation with 777s?
Is Air Canada really just a 703 operation with 777s?
- job ads that promise carrots, "upgrades in 3 - 5 years" without any mention of starting pay. Starting pay is less than starting the ramp at Buffalo Joe. Why throw bags when you can throw yourself into poverty in Toronto
- an operation that punishes fatigue while expecting you to be rested for a max CARs duty day, every day. Planned for a short YYZ - YUL hop? Better be ready for a transcon red eye, just in case
- a don't ask, don't tell commuting policy. Please come work here to live in a shoebox in Toronto
- industry worst reserve rules. Have an assigned duty period where they just move it around. Be ready, all the time. Welcome to a 2 pilot corporate operation turned into a global airline.
- felt harassed by the expectation of being connected to work all the time at a small operation? Wait till AC crew schedulers start texting you from their cell phones
- like feeling pressured to go "unforeseen"? Wait till you see this World Class financial punitive pressure program.
- Fly to CARs limits? Well this operation has a collective agreement that is worse. Following the contract may well lead to you breaking CARs.
- Got only twin turbine time? No problem here. There are countless contract instructors who also have never flown for Air Canada ready to train you. It's truly a train like you fly, fly like you train operation: trained by those who don't fly, so you fly like you're trained from someone who doesn't
- A Director of Flight Ops that holds onto his old boys club of flying the "9" while thinking it is still the glory days of when flying was dangerous and was sex was safe. This is while his profession has eroded to garbage man status so he can capture his next bonus from his corporate overlords

Selfies are unmatched. Problem is I can’t post them anywhere because of the social media policy.
Anyone that already works at AC knows it’s a bush operator that flys Airbus and Boeing. Crewsched has no idea and often pushes things that are very grey if not illegal. It’s only a matter of time until the airline is in the news again.

I flew for a 703 that sounds better than that. They'd pressure me into NOT using "unforseen".
Chief pilot would call and talk people into staying on the ground if the weather was too crap.

Solid post. I think most believe it's a bush airline that flies Airbus and Boeing's. The problem is some parts of management are great and have your back (chief pilots, duty pilots etc) it's the leadership from a corporate level and other employee groups who try to disrespect pilots where it falls apart.
Remember fellas, don't push unless cons are on. Do the walk, you control the park brake.

Also the uniform since 2018 has been such a dog shit excuse for a uniform most of us wear different pants, don't have hats etc.
