YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
Seriously what is up with AC. Just took a personal flight back from Sydney. Rude flight attendants, no smiles, no looking in the eyes as you talk to our customers. If you ask for anything you are treated with contempt as if you are interrupting. Waiting for the restroom, two FAs talking smack about another FA interspersed with swear words in front of passengers. Miserable customer service in all.
Just down right embarrassing. We need to start acting like a world class airline if we are to expect world class contracts.

I suppose it's one way to lower company profits to show ALPA the company really can't afford anything more than a 2% raiseeyebrow737 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 2:28 pm Seriously what is up with AC. Flight from Tokyo when the covid mess was ending. Ac flight was the only leg on a long trip where masks even had to be worn. Whatever.
FA in full PPE gear like the ICU ward in a hospital wakes up the guy behind me who’s mask had partially slipped —- while he was asleep. For real.
Tells him they are gonna call the police on him when they land in YVR.
Nice, eh?
I will not fly a Canadian airline internationally. Literally everyone is better.

Or maybe we can offer world class contracts to attract world class people- you can't expect the cream of the crop while simultaneously handing out food stamps to new hire FAs.eyebrow737 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 2:28 pm Seriously what is up with AC. By using the same yard stick, one could wonder what quality of pilots we are getting for one of the lowest starting wages for any flag carrier in the world....

^ What sort of d!ckhead comment is that? Air Canada has always been, pretty much, *the* destination for Canadian pilots..
Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
“ In support of this passenger, all the other travelers also left the plane, forcing Air Canada to cancel the flight.”
In support? All of them? Not likely.

For a significant number of pilots that's true, but for a great number of pilot's it's false. Plenty of pilots, including myself, who have not applied at AC even though we meet and exceed their hiring requirements. 4 years of flat pay and other issues do keep people away.mmm...bacon wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:01 am ^ What sort of d!ckhead comment is that? Sure, but that doesn't mean every new hire is a competent pilot. I personally know multiple individuals that were turned down at WJ, TS and SW, only to be picked up by AC. Another one botched the sim eval at Jazz and didn't get an offer. Guess who started at AC about 6 months later? Yet another case. Washed out of SW during line training and went to fly Dash-8s for Voyageurs on the Purolator contract. Made it to AC just over a year later. Why do you think there has been a considerable uptick in failures and overall training requirements over the last bunch of years?

Everyone is saying there must be more to the story but I don't know. I've been shouted at by Air Canada flight attendant for a polite request too. Actually she looked like this person, I wonder if it's her. It's demeaning, and something that sticks with you for life. Sometimes they just lose it and take it out on you. There's a serious customer service culture problem at Air Canada. I don't know if other pilots are pretending they don't see it, or if they just haven't been a paying customer enough to experience it.

We are only super rude because we care so much about your safety --- isn't that the narrative?Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:50 am Everyone is saying there must be more to the story but I don't know. Give me Turkish, Singapore, Cathay any day----- No comparison. In economy, premium, or business, light years difference.
Better food, seats, friendliness, and professionalism.
Have no interest in a debate, I have flown far more than most people overseas, I vote with my wallet.
Domestic AC is fine, but 3-4 hours, who cares, its a bus ride as long as I get there. 12 hours is different

Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
I’ve been commuting 20 years, I have never been witness to anything extreme on board, the odd FA who is not a shiny happy person but never short tempered. I can’t say I’ve just been lucky as my sample includes widebody and narrowbody flights and obviously many flights.Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:50 am Everyone is saying there must be more to the story but I don't know. I can’t speak to this particular flight but I have personally seen passengers take out their delay frustrations on the FA and most smile and offer sympathy, some will obviously hit their breaking point, I seriously doubt any employee is just plain rude all the time without having been provoked but like anything, there is the 5% rule

Domestic commuter? Long haul is where the real battle-axes are.

Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
The worst is the customer service employees walking around the airports. Phone customer service is alright, it's recorded. But ask someone a question at the airport and expect a snippy rude and degrading answer. I stopped flying AC after witnessing an interaction with another passenger.
The pilots at AC might be world class, but that's it, they're the only employee group. Management compensates themselves like they're world class, but don't lead like it. Customer service is better in the 3rd world.

Yes, domestic and I’m sure you’re correct, seniority but I thought many had retired

Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
I’ve been flying with a lot of sub 1 year FOs and I’ve only had one that I questioned a bit. All the rest were excellent. There will always be a few that slip through the cracks but the overwhelming majority of new hires are more than qualified to be here.Tbayer2021 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:29 ammmm...bacon wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:01 am ^ What sort of d!ckhead comment is that? Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
Terrible customer service in YUL and all of Quebec is the norm and encouraged isn’t it??? Regardless of industry right???
Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
Saying AC has had a reputation for absolutely horrendous customer service is stating the obvious. They're renowned worldwide for it, and that's common knowledge.
They use to make people wait hours in line at customer service instead of staffing more than 50% of the counters. -All intentional to cut costs- and then every person in front of the agent is even angrier.
You can thank airlines like Porter for pulling so many frustrated travellers from from AC's captive audience that they've almost single-handedly changed the perception of airline travel in Canada.
AC sucks less these days, (But definitely not an absense of suckage.) They've been making giant strides in the last 10 years, albeit forced and grudgingly.

Imagine being the FA who made the news worldwide. Aparently this was in the Times of India.

As a lifelong Anglo Montrealer, who learned French along the way, I'd say that this is the case if you stomp around expecting everyone to serve you in a language that isn't the official language. If you act reasonably, on the other hand, I've generally found my customer service experiences to be positive.

This is correct. Big difference between the domestic and international experience. Domestic is fine, people are nice, even.

Any internal acknowledgment of this incident at AC? Hopefully she has been suspended/fired by now.

Suspended? Fired? Are you mad?Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 3:07 pm Any internal acknowledgment of this incident at AC? Hopefully she has been suspended/fired by now.
There is clearly more to the story. Having done flights to and from Morocco I’ve had more than one occasion of unruly passengers. I will bet 100% there’s more to it than the“I just asked for a blanket” excuse.
Re: YUL flight cancelled because pax asked for a blanket
knowing my experiences with AC senior FAs on long haul flights, the customer probably bristled at being spoken to so rudely and complained, and most likely was promptly threatened with deboarding as an 'unruly passenger" for "talking back"theacolyte wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 3:44 pmSuspended? Hundreds of flights on AC as a passenger along with european and asian etc carriers. AC service is just shocking in comparison, and there is no excuse for treating paying customers the way they do except they just obviously don't care and not afraid of any repercussions.

That's because there are no repercussions, sadly.munzil wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 4:58 pmknowing my experiences with AC senior FAs on long haul flights, the customer probably bristled at being spoken to so rudely and complained, and most likely was promptly threatened with deboarding as an 'unruly passenger" for "talking back"theacolyte wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 3:44 pmSuspended?
