Flight Instructors Annual Flight Time?

Post by ellinas »

Hello aviators

Quick question to instructors out there.

How many hours a year on average do you instruct and typical Class 4 hourly pay??

Thanks

I did just under 700 hours my first year instructing (~680 h). That was on the East Coast with terrible weather. I also did close to the same amount of ground instruction (maybe around ~600 h).

I don't know what the going rate is at other schools (I hear some horror stories, but I don't know how common they are), but the school I work with now pays Class 4's $38/h plus some small increments depending on what other qualifications/experience they have. That increases to $60/h for Class 1's plus the same increments.

You should be in the mid 30's give or take per billable hour depending on location.

500-1000 hours per year is a good range. Depends how much you want to work and the weather in the winter.
