Floatplane Camping - Do's and Don'ts
Hello all,
Just got myself a cub on floats and looking to do some camping in Ontario. I'm wondering what I need to know in regards to where I can land and camp. I know Algonquin and all parks are out of bounds so I'm looking for suggestions and tips. I'll be flying out of the Kawartha Lakes area and wanna be about 100 miles as I'll have to make a couple trips in and out cause of weight.
Thanks in advance

Provincial parks aren't "all out of bounds".

I had no problem obtaining written permission to land in the lakes of Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park which starts north of Norland. I was happily given written permission for each season I requested. At the time I asked, the phone number for the Superintendent was 705 454 3324, I don't know if it's still current, but give it a try.
There's a great campsite on the north side of the narrows of Fishog Lake, where I camped may times.

While a good idea to avoid conflict and abide by provincial regulations, keep in mind that the Supreme Court has ruled that provinces and municipalities have no authority to regulate where aircraft can land, take-off or otherwise operate. So, while a good idea to comply with the provincial regulations, they are not legally binding.

Can you back that up with a legal quote or reference? I need it pleaseHornblower wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:28 am While a good idea to avoid conflict and abide by provincial regulations, keep in mind that the Supreme Court has ruled that provinces and municipalities have no authority to regulate where aircraft can land, take-off or otherwise operate. The doctrines of pith and substance and interjurisdictional immunity are considerably more complex than you're letting on.Hornblower wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 5:28 am While a good idea to avoid conflict and abide by provincial regulations, keep in mind that the Supreme Court has ruled that provinces and municipalities have no authority to regulate where aircraft can land, take-off or otherwise operate. Yeah... I was afraid of that - so I just asked for permission, and received it.The doctrines of pith and substance and interjurisdictional immunity are considerably more complex than you're letting on

So after getting side tracked for two months of the summer, I made a phone call to Alberta Parks in regards to getting permission to land and fish in one of their designated lakes. Great person I dealt with and an email letter for authorization was received later that afternoon. Has to be done annually with an activity log submitted at the end of the season. Just putting this out there in case someone was looking to do the same thing.
