I haven’t read it but I can say, every WJ pilot I have talked to about it, says they are pretty happy and morale is significantly better!

From Reuters...
Around 100 business groups on Wednesday urged Ottawa to prevent a strike by Air Canada pilots, saying a stoppage would disrupt supply chains and spoil Canada's reputation as a reliable partner.
Air Canada said on Monday it was finalizing plans to suspend most of its operations as soon as talks with the pilots' union were nearing an impasse over "inflexible" wage demands. The union says the airline needs "to get serious at the bargaining table."
In a letter to Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon, the groups noted he had stepped in quickly last month to halt a stoppage at the country's two main rail companies, forcing employees back to work and imposing binding arbitration.
"The federal government needs to take decisive action. The impacts of a labor disruption at Air Canada will ripple throughout the economy," they said.
"Should the parties not come to a negotiated agreement, the federal government must... be prepared to act in advance to prevent yet another damaging disruption by referring the matter to binding arbitration where a neutral arbitrator can resolve any outstanding issues."

Absolutely disgusting that this is where we're at in this country. Large corporations begging government to fu ck over workers so they can continue to profit off their backs. And it actually being a reality that's likely.JHR wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 11:17 am From Reuters...

We truly need a wholesale purging of everyone involved in this travesty.

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
Bede, some people believe if no confidence is called while we are already on strike we will need to go back to work. Is that how you interpret the law, or is it only you can't start a new strike if there is no government to notify?
Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
I'm unaware of such a law. Remember, the goverment is still functional even if Parliment has been dissolved.
Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
It would appear this is the law being referenced. It doesn’t look like a forgone conclusion. But an option available to Governor in Council.

I thought that was the f--king point. Exert pressure on the management team to table a better offer that would end the dispute. Is AC management choosing to be unreliable and shut down the airline? Then book on WJ, Porter, Flair, Lufthansa, BA, Delta, United, anyone else.JHR wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 11:17 am From Reuters...

Only they're exerting pressure on the government to trample over the workers rights.

Conservatives even support AC pilots. Just the Liberals are stuck up the ass of corporations.
Snippit from https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/busine ... -1.7320108:
"In Ottawa on Wednesday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said he would not support sending the Air Canada contract talks to binding arbitration and urged the company to bargain in good faith.
"U.S. pilots make a lot more money and pay a lot less taxes and pilots at Air Canada are simply trying to make up for the ground they lost as the result of the government-caused inflation," he said.
"We're not going to support pre-empting those negotiations. We stand with the pilots and their right to fight for a fair deal.""

National Post is right. Gotta keep the working class squashed under the thumb of the rich and the ruling class. Force them back to work before any work stoppage is even announced.
That article is so horrid, the author didn't even want their name on it

Well he trampled on the rights of the Un-Vaxxed.
Then he trampled on the rights of the Truckers.
Then he trampled on the rights of the Rail Workers.

It doesn't matter what they say. We are withdrawing our services if they don't negotiate in good faith.
It's really amazing how little I agree with the Liberal's policies
. It's like they believe the exact opposite of me on every issue. You'd think there'd be some common ground somewhere.

Pierre Poilievre was the MP who defended the Harper legislation in the House of Commons to put AC pilots into Final Offer Selection Arbitration in 2012.
So in effect, he, not the Liberals, is somewhat responsible for how far behind the AC pilots are in compensation.
Supporting them now is the least he can do, although big business in Canada is going to have a hard time accepting this stance from Canada’s “pro-business” party(ie Conservatives)
Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
How likely is it that the strike will actually happen? Sorry for sneaking into the forum here, but I'm flying further away (to Canada) for the first time and I'm worried. We booked through Air Canada for a flight on September 21st. DRS -> FRA -> YYZ DRS-FRA is operated by Lufthansa. I really don't know what we should do :/
Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
I think everyone knows this is a purely political stance, they are happy to have the Liberals be the bad guy, they just said they plan to introduce a non-confidence vote at the earliest possibility. This will be a piece political dynamite for the NDP, support the Liberals and keep falling in the polls.
They are certainly boxing him in, I honestly think he won’t risk his pension, he’ll use some excuse about getting more done for Canadians but the truth is, he just another politician looking out for himself!
I will be looking for the list of businesses that sent the labour minister the letter demanding preemptive government intervention, I am planning a boycott of those businesses!

“With rail, that was true — it is a national crisis. But with this, it’s not a national crisis or emergency. This is a competitive situation. For things which need to be shipped by air, there are other cargo carriers,” Gradek said.
The CIRB also might be getting tired of being treated as a primary option rather than a backstop, said Rafael Gomez, director of the University of Toronto’s Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources.
“Ultimately, it’s the CIRB which has to agree,” said Gomez. “And their legitimacy is at stake.”
If the CIRB rubber-stamps government requests, they risk losing credibility as a neutral third party, Gomez said.
“If they lose their legitimacy, then we go back to the ‘70s, when there were wildcat strikes,” said Gomez. “These federally-regulated companies have gotten so used to intervention that there’s what we call a chilling effect. It’s an industry where they seemingly have the right to strike but in practice don’t“

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
It's not a "wildcat strike" if you followed all the rules, issued a 72 hour notice, etc. I actually feel a duty as a citizen of this country to exercise my Charter Right to withdraw my labour in the face of government oppression.
Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
AC pilots are but the latest group about to find out if charter rights are worth the paper they are printed on. Personally I would not feel too comfortable getting on a flight crewed by pilots forced into work against their will. I could definitely see this having an effect on someones mental fitness to fly. What are these armchair quarterbacks thinking?

Re: It is imminent.......be ready.
So basically I'm just not going to fly it (the plane)
I know... UGH I know... I'm sorry!!!!!!!!
It's just I'm just not going to fly it is all

It's too bad a lot of people on this forum spent so much time throwing stones at the other groups that got ridden roughshod by the government over the last 4 or so years. In part it was their support of the government stance that emboldened the government to isolate certain groups of people and destroy their lives and livelihoods. I hope this process is shining a light on why we should all stand up when "Rights" are trampled on, even if we disagree with the person asserting their rights.
The only way to fix this is to start supporting each other, so despite the way I was treated by my fellow Canadians and fellow airline pilots as I was shown the door in Canada, I hope that the AC pilots fair better than I did. Because at the end of the day I prayed every day that people would have a change of heart and start supporting my "Rights" so I could stand up to the government and my former airline. That never did materialize, even so, I'll practice what I preach, not hold a grudge and wholeheartedly support your right to a fair labor process.
