Is there an AC pension calculator?

Post by Core »

So with the new TA, I'm now ruminating giving a stab at an existing interview offer as it's no longer a total hard pass foodstamp move, just a bit of an Independant Grocer move for a while. Hopefully it gets voted down and tweaked, and that will make the decision to move over a lot easier... if not it's at least still a turn into the right direction for once, but I digress.

In hopeful anticipation of a junior tweak (Hey now), I have a question, do you have a pension calculator? That's a big part of this decision, as I'm in a great spot right now but no pension- just matching, and my department could also evaporate any day. I'd increase my working days by 3x but it is what it is for security and a decent geriatric allowance. Currently, on the assumption that I have a plane to show up to, I'm on pace to return about 55k a year for 25 years after retirement. No indexing or anything of course.

I'm 45, only have 20 years to go. I'm aware I may never make WB captain. Can anyone please give me an idea what the annual pension payout would be, for say, a medium pace of chasing metal and enjoying senior WB FO for a while or senior NB capt? Is this a tough gig? Unless Jr WB capt has less working days....

Much appreciated guys and gals.

Don't worry if this TA doesn't pass. They have to increase starting salaries to attract people like you.

A better question is, how many years on average is an Air Canada pension paid out?

A civil servant pension payout the average was two years after retirement. I can’t remember if it was a specific department or just average across the board.

That's true... if you're just looking at the sum of totaI value. I also assume one would be going fully to 65 in order not to garner further penalty with only 20 YOS. (Though I'd put some Canadian Tire money on it being 67 by the time I'd get there.)

Really? 2 year average for those desk jockeys? Most teachers and pencil pushers I know go years and years, which is what I'm counting on. Anyways, I believe AC pays out as long as you have a warm body to collect it. Would just like to have an idea what one could expect per annum with a protracted 20 year career. (Still disgruntled that 20 years potentially "isn't enough" in this company to start making it worth it... hoping to be proven wrong.)

I don’t have a pension calculator, but your payout will depend on your years of service and final salary. Senior roles like WB FO or NB captain usually pay better, which can help your pension. Just weigh the stability against the work-life balance.
