Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
Just heard that Airbus in Mirabel is hiring Mexicans at a government subsidized wage.Canadian contractors are being kicked out.Just terrible.
Re: Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
Which Gov't is doing the subsidizing? Guess it doesn't matter as the Bloc will just get the cash from the Feds.
Re: Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
Why is this a surprise. It’s the way it is now. Welcome to Canada.

What I wonder is why you guys continue to do such demanding job as this one if it's obviously not worth it at all. I walked out years ago! It's true! If you could get paid the same with a lot less of the demands, what would you do? Gentlemen, this profession sucks! I'd rather groom in the same hangar with you people than to do what you are doing.
Garbage of a profession! Do you think I still care?
And who will get into manufacturing for f*ck sake? Lol! It's one of those jobs that is full of trash!

As for me, I graduated 3 months ago and I can't land an apprenticeship to save my life...
I've been trying to get into the industry since 2019, only to find out that employers now strictly prefer inexperienced workers that can't speak a word of English or French..
I am 34 now and can't afford years of investment of time and money into another school...
What do I do now? I am about to become homeless soon at this rate, I do understand that I am not the only Canadian facing this problem, but at the same time I really do need to do something
Can anybody advise me something? I can't land apprenticeship no matter how many times I apply

Re: Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
As I was saying many times, this is a very small industry so opportunities are scarce. I came from the airlines where it is a very busy working environment. As much as possible, they will only hire licensed AMEs. Very rarely they will hire apprentices in very small numbers. About the manufacturing, it is even more niche and they require atleast 2 years of manufacturing experience to even get into. Damn them! It's hard to get into this industry as an apprentice. There are lack of apprentice jobs. What I experienced also is they tend to prefer people who graduated from BCIT. Take any job. You end up with an m1 or m2 in the end, whatever!
To be frank with you people, I'm struggling in this country too! It's hard to do this job with what they are paying me! Even if you can get a job and get your license, it's not doable with what they are paying me! The guy doesn't believe me that I had my license. How about I show him my logbook which means I completed my apprenticeship.
This demanding and expensive job is not doable with it's garbage pay! You're better off grooming or working in the ramp/bagroom! Plenty of jobs for those! Or you could do what I did which is just leave aviation and not do a technically intensive job which is not worth it! Tech is for losers! I'm fed up with tech! How are you people treated being technical? Gentlemen, most people believe that electricity flows through the wire. Are they ever gonna understand this? No, because you will do this menial work! I don't care to know when nobody does! I am going to support that notion even though I know better! I don't wanna be Tesla! What happened to the guy? Society just tossed him in the trash! Lol!
Sorry to be unmotivated because there is nothing to be motivated about! How was I treated when I was doing this sh*t, huh? This is a joke, gentlemen!
I have nothing good to say. I am going to trash-talk this industry.

Re: Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
They are not going to retain people in this industry. I am telling you this! You can get in and see how long you lasts! What a waste of everyone's time!
They will pay you minimum wage as an apprentice but require you to move, get a car to access the hangar, buy your tools, etc. What the f*ck is that lol? You don't even have a stable employment as an apprentice! I know somebody who is doing that in AC! The man doesn't have a stable job to pay his bills! What are you gonna do? Flip burgers part-time while you do this? Lol! You might as well do it full-time because AME has no future!
I've been to WJ. Some of the AMEs right there came from abroad. Why train if you can hire experienced people from abroad? Gentlemen, they have a solution!
For me, I'm treating my job as a gig rather than a career.

Nope, all their job postings always clearly indicate that applicant must possess M1 or M2 license to be considered qualifiedludivicchua wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:19 am I don't know anything about air canada, but isn't the big red hiring apprentices?

So it seems that I'm correct. Nothing have changed in this industry! As I was saying before, why train if you can hire already trained people from abroad who are better qualified and motivated for cheap? While they are having problems retaining people in this industry, the immigrants very much are willing to take these jobs.
I graduated 10 years ago and what you are experiencing now is exactly what it was. My brother who work in the IT has a lot of friends. One of his friend graduated from aircraft maintenance program and he could not find apprenticeship anywhere but Air Canada. This was years ago. He is the one I'm talking about here. I also know other people who did their apprenticeship there. The job sucks and they are my reference!
I'm not giving any advices since I have poor experience but I'm just ranting here. From my own experience, this industry and profession sucks and they are not doable due to poor pay. I cannot do this job and I'm not willing to do it anymore! I'm not making enough money in order to support myself who is single!
Guys, who cares if you are doing maintenance or cleaning that plane. They pay the same, in fact, the people that are cleaning are better off. Stop with this f*cking ego, you are being paid sh*t and are being overworked. And another thing I noticed in the airlines is people are doing charity work. Stop that sh*t! That is not gonna save your a*s!
A bunch of aerosexuals! This is not a red seal trade! It is a dead-end poor-paying extremely demanding job! Who would invest in this profession? It's torment!

Most of the guys/gals that found a job from my school were completely inexperienced, can't even do simple task of lock-wiring, some can't speak English nor speak french, etc etc list goes on and on
At this point it is no secret that their wage is getting subsidized

Re: Airbus in Mirabel Montreal Hiring Mexicans
The job interview asks you technical questions. I have this colleague who is an international student who were lucky to get a job interview. He f*cked it up and did not get the job. And then I had this colleague who is from here and I would rank this person as "fair" among all the graduates in my school. Landed the job interview, landed the job, and then they fired this person after weeks. They are very selective! Does not matter if you are international student who have no PR or a local, companies will hire you if you are competent. I have colleagues like that. Anyways, this was during my time. You are correct, the schools produce a lot of incompetent people. What the f*ck, who would study to become a mechanic if they don't wanna get dirty?
One of the things that suck about this industry is it is too small so the opportunities are small for too many people to compete for. Apprenticeships are rare and as I was saying, as much as possible, they do not want to hire apprentices. Those who have connections get priority through referral.
Getting in is only the tip of the iceberg. The pay really sucks man! We know this country is very expensive and unlivable. Holy sh*t is the pay so small and the job so demanding that this is not viable to do.
You get a job, so what? You're still gonna struggle with the pay and the cost of living! Gentlemen, there are many jobs right there, why do this one?

I'm quiet-quitting in the automotive in the assembly. Its repetitive work. I'm just doing that. I tried the lube tech, holy sh*t, it's not for me. If you are not workaholic, you have a lifestyle. I'm pursuing that also while trying to make some money from it.

Well, at least you got a job..
I spent 5 years on and off doing 2 aviation related programs from college from same school (due to pandemic)
Now I can't find any job to save my life.. 5 years of my life just wasted, just like that
