BN Islander Crash

Post by pelmet »

C-FGAQ, a Villers Air Services Britten Norman BN2A Islander departed Lower Prairie Airstrip (58°
04' 40" N, 123° 50' 55" W), BC, on a flight, under visual flight rules, to the Gathto Basecamp
Airstrip (58’ 04' 05" N, 124’ 07' 39" W), BC. Immediately after takeoff, the aircraft experienced an
engine (Avco Lycoming O-540-E4C5) power loss. The pilot initiated a forced landing and put the
aircraft down into an area southwest of the airstrip that was partially cleared. The aircraft came to
rest approximately 200 metres from the airstrip and both the pilot and passenger egressed without
injury. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
Damage included bending of the airframe and wings, with damage to both engines and propellers.
The aircraft was recovered to Fort Nelson for assessment.
