Why does de Havilland Canada have a 737?
C-FPHS. What do they use it for - Hauling freight? Support? Moving execs? Seems like a lot of plane for any of those missions and there would be many far more economical options. Where do they go with it? I’m genuinely curious. The tracking is blocked at least on FlightAware.
I saw it on the ramp yesterday in Liberia, Costa Rica and got to wondering about it. It happens that there is a Caribou parked on the other side of this same airport as a museum display but I doubt the DHC visit was related to that. Figured someone here might know about it or know some who flies or has flown it.

I think it belongs to the wife of the guy who started the initial company that has morphed into De Hav. Is it Sherry Brydson Longview Aviation?

Re: Why does de Havilland Canada have a 737?
The aircraft belongs to Sherry Brydson, who owns a good piece of the Thomson firm Woodbridge. I think she owns some of De Havilland too. Also has a place in Victoria.
I am guessing it’s managed by DHD and is primarily for her use. She was worth $18B a few years ago, probably more now. I think she can afford the operating cost of an old 737-500.

Sherry Brydson is the grand-daughter of Roy Thomson. She and her cousins are the richest family in Canada. Her cousin David is a part owner of the Winnipeg Jets.
The ownership structure is extremely complicated, but the 737-500 PHS used to be foreign registered and owned by Brydson but has been Canadian registered for quite some time. Longview Aviation is owned by Ms. Brydson (somehow through her different Companies) and previously owned Viking Air. Now DHC is owned entirely by Longview after being bought from Bombardier.
Not sure how much actual DHC business gets done on PHS. Last time I had any interaction with it was almost 20 years ago when it was foreign registered. At the time, it was primarily for Ms. Brydson and her family - they had a residence in Victoria but a cottage in Muskoka.

I remember it as Aruba registered.
