Bro could be 6’3, single and handsome, 26YO about to start at Delta or United and get to live in a warm city by the beach, make pretty much the same as any yr 1 CA here as a yr 1 FO, I don’t think being BOTL is a worry.
Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
Well I have my resignation in, just haven’t had my last working day. No biggie joining the BOTL. Just got a little more than 1 year under the belt with AC and as long as you join growing outfit it’s no biggie leaving the old boys club. Plus coming from Canada and having to move either way I am totally flexible to live at a base. Sadly the new contract is still worse than any US contract (even a stale one) so go figure. And the fact that they couldn’t even come up with decent reserve rules, that at least would make the upgrade viable, is just the cherry on top.vanislepilot wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 7:27 amJealous much?Man_in_the_sky wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 8:52 pm

Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
The last bid shows 7 resignations so 0.13% have left. Not necessarily leaving to go south but resigned one way or another. So, 99.87% are choosing to stay at least for now.

Wonder how many of those 99.87% would leave if they were able to work southALPAisAwesome wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 12:40 pm The last bid shows 7 resignations so 0.13% have left. Not necessarily leaving to go south but resigned one way or another. So, 99.87% are choosing to stay at least for now.

remember when ALPA threw in the media that 30% of the pilots were ready to resign...
that was dog water.

Curious, was that a question on any of the negotiation surveys?Man_in_the_sky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 2:26 pm remember when ALPA threw in the media that 30% of the pilots were ready to resign...

Where else would they get that number?

The latest carrot is the monster of all bids, I’d assume some guys are waiting for that. Some guys are waiting for WJ to start hiring, or more porter bases to open etc.
I think 30 percent probably would want to leave but you can’t just leave without somewhere to go.
The “choice” to stay isn’t really a choice. Stay or lose the farm.

Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
Yes it was part of a survey - and I’m sure that’s the percentage of people that would leave if they could. Problem is that there are not many alternatives if you’re confined to Canada. Let’s face it, aviation in Canada has always been a bit of an issue… probably why we didn’t get the world class contract everyone hoped for.cdnavater wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 2:51 pmCurious, was that a question on any of the negotiation surveys?Man_in_the_sky wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 2:26 pm remember when ALPA threw in the media that 30% of the pilots were ready to resign...

Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
Even those that can go to the US, it's a lengthy process. The new contract is not what they wanted and they're leaving? Great, the job offer in the US is still a year away. They're still leaving, just waiting for the process to unfold. That won't have showed up in the data yet.

Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
Keep in mind that when you see 'resignation' on the bid list, this sometimes means that a new hire was not making it through training, and was offered the chance to resign rather than have 'terminated' stamped next to their name. These are one-off Memorandums of Settlement, we also see this with discipline cases where a member is about to be fired. Happens more often than you think.ALPAisAwesome wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 12:40 pm The last bid shows 7 resignations so 0.13% have left. We've been reading about the floodgates about to open to the US for a few years now on this forum. It never happened, and I don't see the Trump administration (next week

How did you manage to leave? I have been trying for years, even converted my license and applied for the EB-2 NIW and have kept getting denied by the USCIS.
Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
I’ve heard this story a bunch. There’s no shortage of AC pilots somewhere in the process to get a US visa but it seems very few are succeeding. Those who have the right to work in the US either through dual citizenship, an American fiancée, one of the NIW visas granted that I bet you could count on one hand, or being from any country other than Canada are long gone or have one foot out the door. Sounds like there are some interesting opportunities in Europe for more adventurous type rated pilots, especially CAs.Ash Ketchum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 12:26 pm I have been trying for years, even converted my license and applied for the EB-2 NIW and have kept getting denied by the USCIS.

I’m not sure how to process your posts Tom, something wasn’t sitting right so I dug in on your previous posts, in order for anyone to take you seriously, please explain how you went from being Swiss coming to Canada on a work permit two and a half years ago to now being an Air Canada pilot with dual US and Canadian citizenship leaving Air Canada for the US;tupues wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2025 9:21 amI guess I am one of the 5 then...Ash Ketchum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 12:26 pmtupues wrote: ↑Mon Dec 30, 2024 3:40 pm

Hi all,
I am dual citizen USA and Canada I am looking at the option of moving to Florida and commuting to work at AC from there (have not managed to find work in the US yet, before anyone asks).
Anyone here has experience with that, or generally commuting from the US? How are the flights generally? How do people do it regarding benefits in Canada. I am assuming they still partly apply, but things like OHIP would not since you do not have residence in the US anymore.
Thanks for any input!

Hi all,
Has anyone got experience with conversion of a FAA license which itself is converted from an EASA license?
I am in the process of converting my EASA ATPL to an FAA ATP and was wondering if I then can convert that one to its TC equivalent.
The things that throws me off slightly is:
1.2 Applicability
(1) This document applies to holders of FAA airman certificates – airplane category at the private, commercial, or airline transport pilot levels.
(2) Holders of a FAA airman certificate issued on the basis of another foreign pilot licence are not eligible for conversion under this agreement.
from here:
https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/refere ... no-401-001
I am not too sure whether this would actually be applicable though, since effectively I will be obtaining a full unrestricted FAA-ATP and not a license based on my foreign license.
Many thanks for any help,
Cheers,

Hi there,
I am in Canada on a work permit (Swiss national) and will be holding a full canadian ATPL in a couple of weeks.
I have noticed that employers often require applicants to hold either a canadian passport or a permanent residency to apply and will not accept people with just a work permit. Why is that so, is that just a preference from the respective employer or is there any deeper reason behind this (i.e. security clearance or the likes)?
As I am an express entry applicant and expect to have a permanent residency in the near future having a job offer would of course speed up the process, so from that end there is nothing really that speaks against anyone hiring me with just a work permit.
Any ideas?
Re: Anyone leave Air Canada?
I absolutely don’t care at all whether you take me seriously or not. Tell me one reason why I would. I am glad however that you’ve done your due diligence on my past and researched my history thoroughly. A+ for that!

You may not care what I think but I guarantee I won’t be the only one questioning your sincerity!
