Hiring Process & Content
Hi folks,
New here, looking for my first 705 job
Can anybody give me an insight on the Cargojet hiring process and content ?
Does it involve a sim or compass ?
Is it online ?
And how long before getting an offer ?
Thanks.

If you meet the requirements then you’ll be contacted rather quickly I’m sure.Propwhistle wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:53 am Hi folks,

I’ve never worked for Cargojet but I don’t think they require a sim eval or compass test. They probably have a pre employment medical drug test. Someone here can probably add to my answer.

The only time i've done CJT interview was a few years back with the former CP, it was a 1 to 1 type of conversation that lasted about 40 minutes, no sim or compass.Propwhistle wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:53 am Hi folks,

The only thing that i found odd was that i had to provide with my SIN number at a such an early stage of the process.
Good luck.

Re: Hiring Process & Content
They have the lowest paid widebody captains in the western world, making less that a third of a UPS 767CA. I don’t think they can be picky with their hiring.

I’m sure that is their way of seeing if you have the right to work in Canadacanadianfly wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:02 pmThe only time i've done CJT interview was a few years back with the former CP, it was a 1 to 1 type of conversation that lasted about 40 minutes, no sim or compass.Propwhistle wrote: ↑Sun Oct 20, 2024 10:53 am Hi folks,

I’ve heard they’re very picky. Need to know someone internally and have a type rating on their aircraft to get hired.Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 6:30 am They have the lowest paid widebody captains in the western world, making less that a third of a UPS 767CA. Re: Hiring Process & Content
Cargojet actually employs a hiring strategy whereas they go for guys who they "hope" will stay.
What this means is if you're a young firecracker with a post secondary degree, started as a flight instructor wearing a shirt and tie, couple of good jobs, quick progression, references, etc, you're less likely to get an interview call than a guy who ramped for 3 years and then slogged it out up North. One guy is a white collar type who will likely get a quick call from AC or WJ and be gone after 6 months, the other is a worker who they know might stay at CJ a bit longer.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, it's their perogative.

Current hiring process ( as of OCT 24) is an Interview, if successful then SIM EVAL then if successful Drug test, Aptitude test and background check.
Not really sure what the other guys commenting get their info from but that is the latest. Currently 6 AC being added to the fleet and a large amount of ETOPs flying being added to the bid package (Europe and Asia primarily) so we are in need of crews; from the outlook of the last classe (we didn't hire in August or Sept) There seems to be around 2000+ of experience min in the class.
Cheers.

Hello aviators great to see growth and movement always a good sign.
With the latest from CJT team and response for the interview what would be or is the latest format for DEC should one get a chance?
Genuinely asking not trying to waste anyone's time not every opportunity is the same to everyone equally, we all have different reasons, and some actually prefer cargo ops to each their own I guess tomato tomatoe
Sorry also are the 6 planes being added all 767? Just out out curiosity? Thank you stay safe

Re: Hiring Process & Content
We are looking for qualified pilots for an assignment overseas. It is for a commuting position as a First Officer with Nippon Cargo Airlines (Japan). The commuting airports are LAX & ORD. The remuneration package is in USD which for the Canadian Dollar, has been big plus.
Details are posted here:
https://acempl.com/job-opportunities.php
I took a LOA many years ago during the Canadian / Air Canada merger and it was probably the best career choice I made. Like every ariline, there are the good and the bad points, but for the most part, it has been a positive experience.
We encourage all qualified pilots to apply.
ACE employment.

Seeing as the captain position you have posted on the 320 pays about 120k including bonuses, which is about 160 CAD, I'd venture to guess the FO position on the 47 is much less. Who would commute to Japan (from chicago) for that kind of money?

Re: Hiring Process & Content
I imagine one of the interview questions is ‘how do you feel about being the lowest paid widebody captain on Planet Earth? Making less than a Dash8 captain on $138 an hour. I sure hope the aircraft are pristine and the hours are sociable for those wages. Oh wait…Flydaplane wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:58 am Hello aviators great to see growth and movement always a good sign.

The A320 Peach position is for a low-cost airline in Japan. It is a non-commuter assignment, hence the confusion. We do employ non-Canadians as well and most on that assignment have decided to call Japan "home" for the time being.khedrei wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 5:55 pmWhy don't you post the pay?aceemployment wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 4:31 pm We are looking for qualified pilots for an assignment overseas. At NCA, we do not commute to Japan, but rather start/finish from either LAX or ORD. The first leg is either ORD-NRT, ORD-ANC or LAX-NRT.
The remuneration package is very generous and a summary has already been shared to those qualified for the position.
Hope that clears the air.

Flying overseas is not for everyone. But for some, it has been a great opportunity.
We are not expecting any applications from captains or senior first officers. But for some up and coming FO’s that are looking at a 10+ year upgrade, here or any other company in Canada, then this may be an option.
We recently had a 34 year old upgrade to captain on the B747-8. Something that is almost unheard of in Canada.
The 10+2 guaranteed days off is a contractual obligation. The Japanese have made a conscientious effort to improve the work / life balance. Lately it has been 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, or 1 week on / 1 week off. You do get a hotel room 1 night before duty and after duty, so no more “crash pads”. You also get per diems allocated before and after duty.
We do have a “seniority list” but that is just for vacation awards and upgrades. For days off, the schedulers are very accommodating. I can only remember a handful of times when they asked me to change my days off, and it was only by 1-2 days. Basically, you get what you bid for. I’ve never missed a birthday, anniversary, Canadian thanksgiving, since the whole time I have been here. This year, I worked 1 Xmas in the past 3 years.
We do have Xmas list and typically, we work 1 Xmas in 3-4 years, including junior AND senior pilots.
The salary is NET, and with the strong USD over the pat decade, it has been a huge plus.
