The floatplane behind it had a wonderful view! I'm jealous.

A comment from the video poster mentioned low oil pressure.

Do you know anything more about the time and exact location?

So some more info on the final flight for the Mars.

https://www.timescolonist.com/local-new ... WNCzDziJ8D

Looks like it'll be doing a farewell tour heading down island with flyovers at a bunch of communities. From the article:
=============
The final flight plan will include circling flyovers at several Island towns, likely Port Alberni, Campbell River, Powell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith and Crofton.

At Crofton, the Martin Mars will be joined by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds — coming from the Abbotsford Air Show — and escorted in style to its final landing at Patricia Bay.
=============

A final sendoff, with the snowbirds along for the final leg. Should be a sight to see.

She is airbone as I type this, did the tour around Campbell River, then headed east, likely to go over to Powell River, apparently fell out of adsb coverage as it doesn't show up on FR24 anymore.

For those interested, as she flew by us I clicked on Flightradar24, it shows up there as N39FG, a grumman goose that landed in Sproat Lake earlier today. I didn't see the goose go by, so not sure if she is leading the Mars, or, if Flightradar24 just has them confused.

Last I heard after a couple unsuccessful attempts they put an engine off the Hawaii Mars on it and ferried it back to Sproat Lake for a bunch more work including possibly other engine swaps.

Thanks,

It would be nice if someone could post when the Mars is going to go down to Pima as i would like the opportunity to see it fly. Is there some sort of social media postings of that sort of thing?

They’ve been intentionally quiet about schedule and I think two or three times now the Philippine Mars has shown why. It’s an awful lot longer ferry flight than they did to hop the Hawaii Mars over to Victoria.

I haven't checked into it for a while now. I saw the hullabaloo as it left headed south, and then turned back and landed in Pat Bay. Shortly after the new year, saw that it had been towed up to Cowichan Bay to a place she could be beached for an engine swap, then saw a report that she went back to Pat Bay on her own power a few days later, but went 'on the water' the whole way. Saw a video on youtube, appeared to be on the step headed down the channel.

For all those folks bemoaning the fact she is no longer in the fleet for firefighting, we are now seeing the real reason why.

Word was the #4 engine ate an exhaust valve. My guess is they looked at it and discovered valve stem corrosion from years of storage, and are unwilling to risk blowing another one, so that’s why they elected to swap them all out, or at least look them all over closely.

Thanks for the update. You seem to be in the know about what is going on. I suspect that there would be many on this forum that would like to see the last flight of the Mars. Would it be possible to do some regular inquiries and attempt to let us know with some lead time on when things are planned for that final departure?

I only know what I see on the local news. During interviews I have seen, it has been stated, after the big splash with respect to the Hawaii Mars going to the museum in YYJ, they are purposely being tight lipped about the Philipine Mars to try avoid having large crowds of boats on the water when it's on the move.

Thanks,

Your info is much appreciated. If you or anybody hears anything, it would be great to know about it. A trip to Sproat Lake combined with skiing at Mount Washington would be a great vacation. I have a couple of other aviation things I can do at the same time. Just have to be ready for a last minute trip.

I removed a bunch of offtopic posts that seem like an incipient furball and have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

It appears that the schedule of the Mars is kept under wraps in order to keep the amount of boat traffic down when it does in fact depart. If anyone has that info and feels like sharing it with interested parties, I'd encourage the poster to send it to the aforementioned interested parties via private message.

Anyhoo, I know a few people who live on Sproat Lake and I'm excited to see their pics when it does in fact fly. I have no idea when that is, so please don't PM me heh.

I saw on Facebook that it flew, not sure if it was today or a day or so before, but the trees around the lake had snow on them and the black of the plane looked awesome contrasted to that.

She flew the day before last. I know exactly of the picture you speak of. Unfortunately I am not at liberty to share it as I didn’t take it myself.

Take care,
