Camp Picton Airbase for sale

Post by DanWEC »

Apologies if this article ends up behind a paywall, but the entire property of Camp Picton is for sale, if anyone is interested in owning the last airbase of it's type in Ontario.

Only 15 million dollars, that's the average price of a toronto apartment nowadays! ;-)

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Very interesting history...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CFB_Picton

One interesting thing that I was told years ago about BCATP airports and why their runways were all built as triangles, was so that the novice training pilots never has to deal with more than a 45 degree X-wind....true or not :smt102

Lots of good memories from hanging around the flying club, planes and airport. My dad was Manager and CFI at the Prince Edward Flying Club (PEFC) and Quinte Airways from its inception (1952ish) until he retired from flying in 1974.
Hangin at that airport led to my 33 year military and civilian flying career!

Picton Airport is permanently closed as of January 1st, 2025. Prince Edward Flying Club was kicked out of their clubhouse and hangar last June. Soon enough the runways will be removed and replaced with housing.

The airport may be closed. But they are preserving some of the history, and its a pretty cool place to go visit. Currently a Lancaster is stored in one of the hangars and open for occasional tours.
