Private Aircraft Maintenance in central Alberta

Post by Travisklimp »

I am checking to see if there is any interest for a mobile AME service based in the Edmonton area, performing annuals, servicing, and other regular inspections. I currently work on a fleet of commercial aircraft, and i have maintained private planes in the past for another company, but I am considering starting my own company. Maintaining aircraft as a mobile AME along with my apprentice performing work across Alberta as needed. If you are an aircraft owner who would be interested in such services, please send me an email to let me know. If enough interest is out there, I will follow up and start providing this service. My email is provided below. I will attempt to add a poll as an added metric to gauge interest.

Licensed M1 AME with over 7 years of field experience, I have worked on both private aircraft, and on commercial fleet planes. During this time i have maintained a vast variety of aircraft including approximately 30 models from Stinson Voyager 150, Cessna 172, to Lancair-4P, to Cessna 421 Golden eagle.

I'm looking more seriously into starting this company, and I plan on visiting several airports to see who might be interested in my services. If you are interested at all, or have any suggestions for where to go or who to talk to, it would be greatly appreciated if you could send me an email to let me know.

I think there's near universal interest in an AME's. I'm not in Edmonton, but would call you in a heartbeat if I was. There's very few AME's servicing GA anymore.

Arrg Dude!
If you were my friend I would do everything to talk you out of this.
I have been on a stint in GA(AMO) and I have done a bunch of side stuff with local GA owners.
They will only be interested because they are looking for the cheap route of maintaining their toy.
They don't like AMO's because of money and standards.
This will vastly increase your personal liability and if you piss off the wrong guy TCCA will get interested in you quick.
Lots of people will take advantage of you and some will not pay.
Fuel will be a big killer of your revenue, if you choose to drive long distances to catch business.
You have an apprentice? so now you have two mouths to feed, that means double the hours you have to bill out for.
Please remember there are limitations to your AME license.
You cannot sign out anything considered Specialized maintenance so be very familiar with CAR571 schedule ii. specifically avionics stuff.

I'm quite familiar with the private maintenance side of things, and prepared to take that on. I've experienced those kind of customers before, and I understand the challenges involved with it.

That said, I have decided to go ahead with my plan, and have started my company, Wyvern Air Services. We will be setting up things up over the next couple weeks, and should be prepared to start offering services starting around March if all goes well.

If you have need of an annual inspection or regular servicing, etc, please feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss your needs.

This is unfortunately true in some cases. However, I want a competent AME who is familiar with pistons. That old school troubleshooting ability has largely gone the way of the dodo in favour of AMO's with AME's whose only experience is component replacement on turboprops.

Wyvern Air Services is set to be fully up and running sometime in March. I'm based out of Villeneuve airport, and will likely be able to lease space at the hangar I am in. I also have my service van to perform maintenance anywhere around the Edmonton area. Send me an email, text, or call me to let me know if you're interested in any maintenance services.
