Applying ATPL with converted CPL from FAA

Post by kim943824 »

I converted my FAA CPL, Instrument Rating, Multi-engine rating to TC.
I had to took a FAAIA written exam which is Instrument Rating Conversion from FAA.

So, my question is that..
Do I have to take an INRAT written exam for ATPL license?
Or, FAAIA written exam can be used for ATPL license instead of INRAT?

If anyone has same experience, please help me out

It sounds to me like you’ll have to write the Canadian ATPL exams.

You can only convert a license once and since you have a Canadian CPL you’ll have to take the steps that a Canadian CPL holder would have to receive an ATPL which would include the SARON and SAMRA.

This is my understanding. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

There are no credits for foreign applicants for the ATPL in CAR 421. All Canadian ATPL holders must have completed the INRAT, SARON and SAMRA exams, as listed in CAR 421.34(3).

This is also confirmed at the following page for foreign pilots:
https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/licens ... ts#airline

I don't know that there's a rule about converting a foreign licence only once, but a foreign licence conversion process doesn't exist for the ATPL so the question is moot.

You do not need to write the INRAT if you obtained instrument rating through FAA conversion

there is no reference because it is not a common occurrence and the conversion part is based off the advisory circular, not the car standard

Hi guys, I’m in the same situation. Did you get your ATPL or did you have to write the INRAT?

Nope, did not have to. FAAIA exam is the substitute for INRAT.
