News is reporting it was a crash 8KM South-East of Chilliwack Lake. According to this article it was a Chinook Helicopters C172.

Their C172 have G1000 installed, so maybe the equivalent of a poor man’s FDR if they can crack the non-volatile memory.
Weather was as good as it gets, engine failure unlikely. Didn’t think they did training in weekends, but maybe.
BTW, sounds like there was an initial hit on the 406 ELT that got SAR activated, but the final location came from 121.5, possibly found by a CASARA aircraft in the area. And in the middle of this the RCMP get a “hard impact” notification with location from their iPhone -same as what happened in the Howe Sound crash. It was being Sat-tracked too, don’t know the interval or system. Food for thought before everyone pays 5G’s to upgrade before Nov 25.
