Re: Heli down in the Hudson
Related video shows the mast, blades, transmission as an intact unit hitting the water nearby shortly after the helicopter impacts. Actually the tail boom comes off first, then the tranny/rotors. Odd for the transmission to rip out of a flying helicopter. 206L, maybe some Heli guy can comment on the suspension system attaching it to the airframe.

Re: Heli down in the Hudson
Does helicopter maintenance track takeoff and landing cycles like airplanes or just total hours? Those sight seeing choppers live a hard life.
Re: Heli down in the Hudson
Most heli's do count landing cycles. Bell called them RINs if i recall. (Retirement index number). Heli tours is usually pretty easy on a helicopter compared to what utility operators do to them. External load work and heli skiing can count hundreds of events a day.Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 12, 2025 11:46 am Does helicopter maintenance track takeoff and landing cycles like airplanes or just total hours? Be awaiting this accident report, i've never heard of the top deck departing before.
