Hello aviators
Always wondered what requirements are needed to become a Transport Canada Flight Test examiner to conduct flight tests?
I have seen some info on the TC site just wanted to hear from any individuals that have done it recently.

Re: Flight Test Examiner Requirements
There are two types of pilot examiners, regular one and instructor rating examiner one. The latter is, by far, harder to get, and in many places it will be Transport Canada inspector that conduct the exam.

This is the information I could dig up on the first.
This is for the latter
https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/licens ... tor-rating
Simply put it requires TONS of Class 1 instruction time (i.e. instructing new instructors).

Re: Flight Test Examiner Requirements
The Pilot Examiner Manual details the requirements and can be downloaded for free. The first consideration is that TC identifies a need for another PE in your area. I would start by sending an email to your region indicating you would like to be considered for the PE accreditation
PE's tend to fall into 4 groups.
1) PE's who conduct RPP,PPL,CPL flight tests
2) PE's who conduct ME and IFR/MEIFR rating tests
3) PE's who conduct Flight Instructor Flight Test
4) PE's who conduct Aerobatic Instructor Flight test
Whether you start in group 1 or 2 will depend on your background and experience. 3, and 4 are rare and will have special qualifications/experience to bring to the table

Re: Flight Test Examiner Requirements
From what I saw in my previous flight school, out of 5-6 current PEs, which all were both 1+2, only one qualified for #3. And apparently TC requires you to be active experienced examiner with, as I previously mentioned, tons (as in the over 1,000 hours) class 1 instruction hours, before you get that qualifications.Big Pistons Forever wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 10:11 am The Pilot Examiner Manual details the requirements and can be downloaded for free. Funny enough though - I recently saw an ad for TC inspector - they want 1,500 and ATPL, not even instructor rating of any type, to be considered. That is way below any average PE I ever saw, and those guys evaluate and oversee the PEs.....
