Radio Silence
Hey fellas,
Lot's of silence so far on the job application front over the last three months. I understand that the middle of summer tends to be pretty quiet in terms of hiring. Wondering if anyone knows if anywhere is looking for lower time folks like me. (I know we're a dime a dozen)
I'm based in Saskatchewan and I took the long way through Alberta on the way back from finishing my IFR in early May stopping in at the survey outfits and there didn't seem to be much going in the hiring department.
I walked into the YXE outfits to drop off resumes and they don't seem to be taking on people at the moment either. I heard through the grapevine from someone that works there that Rise Air hired on several foreign worker pilots recently so they don't seem to be hiring guys on at the moment.
I got one TBNT from Carson Air on a Metro cargo spot in Calgary from an online application.
Basically I'm wondering if it's gonna be another while of weekend jump flying before landing something full time?
Appreciate any advice for another low timer. (for reference: ~440hr TT, 24hr multi, 306hr PIC, 45hr IFR, IATRA written)

Re: Radio Silence
Call around and look into what you can for MB operators. Wildfires will make it a bit more difficult as things are changing quick though.
Re: Radio Silence
I've applied to Fast Air/Vanguard, Missinippi, Perimeter, Skynorth, and Wings over Kississing already with not much luck. I've applied eastward to the other 703s and medevacs there too like, Air Bravo, Thunder, Wasaya, PAL, etc
I've considered doing a trip to Winnipeg and handing out resumes in person but I wasn't sure how much traction I'd get at this time of year.

I believe most if not all of those places have ramp and office personnel who are waiting to fly. Does your application say why you are qualified to jump those already there?astech wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:20 pm I've applied to Fast Air/Vanguard, Missinippi, Perimeter, Skynorth, and Wings over Kississing already with not much luck. Re: Radio Silence
Definitely go visit in person. But if you're building time dropping skydivers, don't do anything to jeopardize that job. You're already way ahead by doing that.astech wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 1:20 pm I've applied to Fast Air/Vanguard, Missinippi, Perimeter, Skynorth, and Wings over Kississing already with not much luck. Not sure about summer. It's a classic vacation time. If it's hard to organize, then perhaps wait till mid september, when management is usually back when their kids are in school.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

- He's willing to travel
- He's already building time at a commercial operation
- He actually has his licenses (not all waiting-to-fly personnel has that)
- He's not employed at that company yet, so they can put him in a plane without the need to retrain a fueller/dispatcher/rampie. Shitty situation yes, but that's not on the OP and it absolutely happens.

Re: Radio Silence
I worked ramp while working on my CPL so I'm no stranger to that. I'll sling a fuel hose and chocks for a few months again if I have to but I figured I'd try my hand at landing a right seat somewhere off the bat.
I'll see about doing a Manitoba trip in the future I suppose and see where that get's me. If all else fails I can get my old Mon-Fri job back and get back in the 182 hauling divers, they'll both take me back no problem. I still hang out at the dropzone semi-regularly.

Re: Radio Silence
Since you are close anyway get 500 hours then do another application update with the updated times. It used to be and probably still requires 500 hours TT to be a medevac FO.
Re: Radio Silence
Keep flying no matter what!! That is 100x more valuable than doing some sort of ground to fly schemeastech wrote: ↑Fri Jul 11, 2025 2:38 pm I worked ramp while working on my CPL so I'm no stranger to that.
