Pilot Hiring 2025

Post by Darleck8 »

How long people have been waiting to hear back for an interview recently. Is hiring starting to slow down? Any idea how many classes are going each month?

I applied about a month ago havent heard anything yet

People have waited 6-8 weeks. Hiring in the summer generally slows a bit. We have small class sizes but still continuing 1 class/month which I've heard is ramping up to 2 later in the summer/into fall. Someone with their finger on the pulse can chime in on that. No news is good news. Hang in there

I'm not in the hiring department, but I believe they will be "full" classes. We had a few half classes the last couple months, but we are back to full classes (~20-30?) moving forward.

Hiring 40–60 pilots a month again — that’s aggressive, especially with no end in sight. At this pace, we’re adding roughly 600 per year, and a big August bid suddenly seems likely. The 787s alone could drive 500 movements, plus A220 growth and looming retirements. Sure the 321 replaces some older airbuses but this 2x full class sizes looks to me like an expansion drive again.

But unlike post-COVID, this new wave isn’t full of seasoned pilots. I’m seeing lots of “started flying in 2021/2022” in bios. Are we really putting 2022 grads into the left seat by 2027 with only two years of ops experience in their careers?

It’s one thing hiring a WestJet or Sunwing captain in 2022/2023… but a CPL graduate in 2022 is not the same candidate. No matter how good the training is.

With the 7,000 rumour target on the horizon, that’s another 1,300 new hires needed (closer to 2000 if we count the retirements coming up in the next 3-4 years).

Are the candidates interviewing ready for what’s going to be available to them in 18-24 months?

Things are about to get interesting. :D

Don't wanna sound pessimist about August bid, but it seems to always be the next bid that's gonna be big :p

Does the pension estimator take future aircraft into account or only what's operating now?

No. You wouldn't get a PFO because of Jazz hiring. You would be hired slightly later. They can barely afford to PFO anyone if you believe what you have read in this thread.

MOAB every time. But yes, at some point there WILL be a big bid. These bids are 1 year outlooks. August 2026 should include the further 220, 737, 787-10 and XLR expansion, but who really knows. I'm cautiously optimistic but I never hold my breath.

Doesn’t look like it in the bios.

Lots of low time/started careers in 2019 etc guys.

Classes are also about 10-12 people.

Jazz will be taking up the classes after August I think for a couple months.

Think long and hard if you’re at WJ with any kind of seniority before you jump ship. Air Canada isn’t the place to be in canada atm imo. Good job, terrible company to work for.
