I think I may have talked to the owner a few years ago in Edmonton Villeneuve. Seem to remember him saying it was the only one in Canda but not sure.....
C-GFHZ, a privately registered Shinn Engineering Inc. (Varga) 2150A was operating on a local
sightseeing flight from the Vermilion Aerodrome (CYVG), AB. The occurrence flight had departed
from CYVG at approximately 1145 MDT. After approximately 40 minutes, the aircraft returned to
land at CYVG. The aircraft approached the airport and joined the mid-left downwind for Runway
10. Wind at the time (Lloydminster CYLL METAR – 28 NM E) was reported as 050°T at 12 gusting
to 22 knots. During the initial approach for Runway 10, the pilot discontinued the approach for
unknown reasons and conducted a go-around. The pilot rejoined the circuit on the downwind left
for Runway 10. At 1225 MDT, while turning from the base leg to final, the aircraft stalled. The left
wing dropped, and the aircraft entered a spin to the left. The aircraft completed one and a half
rotations before impacting the ground. The aircraft came to rest approximately 0.9 NM NW of the
airport. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured, and the aircraft was destroyed in a post-
impact fire.

Re: Varga Kachina Crash
Bit more here...
If that is the right engine inboard view, that is an unusual hole in the cowling. It is closely located to the turbo and the exhaust pipe. There is a photo somewhere showing it right wing low with quite a bit of smoke coming from that side.

Sorry, that post was for the Deer Lake accident.
