Najavo crash Deer Lake, N.L.
The media is reporting it as a Navajo. They are often wrong so I apologize if the aircraft type isn't correct.

Sadly they are reporting at least one deceased. It seems like it was owned by an Aerial Survey company from Delta, BC.

RCMP now reporting 2 fatalities - 54 and 27: https://rcmp.ca/en/nl/news/2025/07/rcmp ... -deer-lake
On Saturday, July 26, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP responded to reports of a plane crash near the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near the Deer Lake Airport. The crash prompted the immediate closure of the TCH for several hours to allow emergency personnel — including Deer Lake Airport responders, emergency medical services and Deer Lake Fire Rescue — to respond to the scene.
Two persons were on board the flight: the pilot, a 54-year-old man, and his lone passenger, a 27-year-old man. Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Re: Najavo crash Deer Lake, N.L.
Condolences to Kisik, the families of the deceased persons and to the survey family group.
If anyone knows the names - please PM me.
Re: Najavo crash Deer Lake, N.L.
Indian news outlets are reporting the name of the 27 year old, who was an Indian national. Seems like he was a sensor operator, at least on this flight.

I'm not seeing the name of the pilot released yet.

Re: Najavo crash Deer Lake, N.L.
"CBC spoke to Dean Major, who said he saw the plane crash while standing in his contracting yard with other workers on the highway near the airport.
While the plane was falling, Major said, smoke appeared to be coming from the right-hand side of the plane and he saw the plane turn, so the cockpit was in view. "
20 kts lost on the departure end before the turn was made (100' change in altitude). Curious that the plane performed a circuit before the accident. May they rest in peace.

From TSB....
C-GYYP, a Piper PA-31 aircraft operated by Kisik Aerial Survey, departed from Runway 25 at Deer Lake Regional Airport (CYDF), NL. After takeoff, the aircraft completed a full circuit and then turned southeast. Approximately 1/2 nautical mile south of the threshold of Runway 07, the aircraft collided with the Trans-Canada Highway (Route 1) and continued toward the side of the highway, entering a ditch approximately 12 to 15 feet deep. The aircraft came to rest on its side 200 feet from the initial point of impact. Both occupants sustained fatal injuries.

Update from the TSB....
Update: December 2025
The engine and various components were sent to the TSB Engineering Laboratory in Ottawa, Ontario, for teardown and inspection. During the inspection process, it was observed that the left engine crankshaft had failed. Further material analysis is required to determine why the crankshaft failed. The investigation is ongoing, and we will continue to provide updates when new information is available.
