YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
Any truth to the YYZ Q400 base closing and YTZ base opening? Claude trying to get a full paid move out of it?
Re: YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
So we just make stuff up now? I guess you will know by Jan 15th, but I doubt it.bobcaygeon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:53 am Any truth to the YYZ Q400 base closing and YTZ base opening? Claude trying to get a full paid move out of it?
Re: YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
Lol, first of all Claude “flys” the RJ, so a Q400 base closure won’t affect him!bobcaygeon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:53 am Any truth to the YYZ Q400 base closing and YTZ base opening? Claude trying to get a full paid move out of it?
Second, unless the union comes to an agreement, we have four bases, YYZ, YYC, YUL, YVR, they are in the collective agreement and would need to be negotiated. Could they close a base and open a new one, sure but not without union input!

Claude's been the MEC chair since approx 2008. I'd hope he'd be at least 1.95% involved and isn't just looking after himself.cdnavater wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 1:24 pmLol, first of all Claude “flys” the RJ, so a Q400 base closure won’t affect him!bobcaygeon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:53 am Any truth to the YYZ Q400 base closing and YTZ base opening? YTZ is about 10 miles away from YYZ, so no paid move for anyone let alone an RJ pilot.
Next, the YTZ flying will not be enough to absorb the entire YYZ Q400 base of pilots and I would safely argue there will still be Q departures from YYZ.
My guess is there will be some kind of LOU dealing with any headstart flying at YTZ which will be staffed by YYZ pilots, it will likely include some type of transportation to from YYZ airport. Those details will be released to the pilot group once agreed to, anything before that is rumours and speculation.

Negotiated? Are you sure?cdnavater wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 1:24 pm

“ If a new Pilot Base or the introduction of new Equipment is anticipated, the Company shall post a notice at all existing Pilot Bases a minimum of thirty (30) Calendar Days in advance of the anticipated Vacancy bulletin posting, so that Pilots may change their ESPB. Such notification does not commit the Company to the acquisition of Equipment or opening of new Bases.”
“ A Base closure shall be handled in accordance with Section 5-7 (POSITION REDUCTIONS AND DISPLACEMENTS).”
Re: YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
Ok, not negotiated but within the collective agreement, regardless this started with some ridiculous notion CB is trying to get a paid move for the YTZ flying announcement. There is not enough flying to close YYZ base, my understanding is they will only have 9 Qs with internet, obviously some spares to cover and still provide the service they announced.rudder wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:26 amNegotiated? Anyhow, I have heard absolutely nothing about this, no base discussion in the open yet, so still speculation on what might happen
Re: YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
What would require a ‘negotiation’ would be if Jazz wanted a co-terminal Q400 base to include YYZ and YTZcdnavater wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:48 pmOk, not negotiated but within the collective agreement, regardless this started with some ridiculous notion CB is trying to get a paid move for the YTZ flying announcement. The YTZ operation has been staffed out of YUL due to the special airport qualification and one can presume that arrangement will continue. The challenge that will continue to present itself is no local Q400 RSV pilots with the qualification or currency (YTZ landings).
YTZ should have been opened as a new base when AC resumed Express operations out of YTZ but that ship has likely sailed.
As for the YYZ Q400 base closing…… with 15 departures per day, that is highly unlikely.
Re: YYZ Q400 base moving to YTZ??
I’m fairly certain that YYZ Q pilots will start the YTZ training shortly, this is from a Q instructor the other day, sounds like the plan is to staff most of the flying through YYZ and I believe I mentioned above a LOU regarding how to get pilots there for head starts.rudder wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 9:08 amWhat would require a ‘negotiation’ would be if Jazz wanted a co-terminal Q400 base to include YYZ and YTZcdnavater wrote: ↑Fri Oct 31, 2025 9:48 pmOk, not negotiated but within the collective agreement, regardless this started with some ridiculous notion CB is trying to get a paid move for the YTZ flying announcement. YTZ is rocket surgery. Land the plane in 60% of it's AFM numbers

Jazz doesn't land on the thousand footers... they either land on the numbers or the 1500s. Either way, always exciting to watch them.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:01 pm YTZ is rocket surgery. Land the plane in 60% of it's AFM numbers. and don't buzz the boats. Way back when I flew with Ex-Austin guys out of YTZ and they were pros at boat buzzing albeit in DC 3's, HS748, DHC's of all types, Citations, C402's, etc.... I'm sure I missed many types.goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Sat Nov 01, 2025 8:01 pm YTZ is rocket surgery. Land the plane in 60% of it's AFM numbers.
