Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
Hey there,
I am a full time student in Kingston looking for a flight instructor to finish my PPL. This summer I was able to take GPL almost from the complete beginning to finish and flight test. I finished this season with essentially finishing FAI silver badge and part of gold. I’m hoping to get into racing next spring; provincials, and nationals.
For my efforts my flying club offered me a tow pilot gig for the following summer. This is great, but I’m nowhere near ready. I need:
- PPL
- Tailwheel checkout
- 45 hours PIC, on power, not glider hours haha
I think I have about ~7 hours PIC. My constant flying at the club this summer took me away from PPL and it definitely suffered. I was about to go for XC’s around the time that I stopped flying power.
The weather in Kingston isn’t ideal and the flying club in Kingston is very poorly organized. I’m tired of dealing with them and chasing them around like I did before this summer. I cannot get any flights in, least ones on a regular basis, and what I’d like to do is fly frequently, at least twice a week. If I can get this within the month, I don’t see this quest taking longer than February at the worst for flight test.
I have radio, PPAER, cat 1, and student permit. I’m all ready to go, and I can base my schedule around the flying, so my availability is fantastic. I just need someone to help me out and get me in the air.
Recently I’ve been trying to stay current with a “plane brain” by studying for CPAER in the meantime. I am about to start studying flight test guide in order to have everything fleshed out. I even went as far as buying some flight sim gear and XPlane to polish skills, but I’ve found that using the sim is much much harder than real flying haha.
I am interested in starting CPAER as soon as PPL is done, as well as INRAT, if that is of interest.
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are able to provide any help.
Thanks.

Seems like you are looking for a freelance instructor. It doesnt look like you mentioned it, but how do you plan to get an aircraft? Do you have an aircraft? For PPL training you need to be the owner of an aircraft, or a family member has to own one to be able to use a freelance instructor. Otherwise you will have to use an FTU.

I do not have an aircraft. I would be open to an FTU. I do not have a family member with an aircraft. So I guess it's either FTU or yes freelance instructor.khedrei wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 6:00 am Seems like you are looking for a freelance instructor. Definitely more than just the Kingston Flying club there. No “ “instructors”that have an FTU so unless you go buy a plane go deal with one of the two schools on the field or get in your car and hit the highway. Lots of other places within a few hours.

Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
The other flight schools are professional pilot programs. Driving around for hours for one flight at a time is not optimal.
Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
I’m about 99% sure Tony is not just a “professional pilot program”. Cygnet is but the other 2 are regular FTUs. What’s “less optimal”? Going up the road or dealing with KFC…. Especially if you only want to fly occasionally…. Maybe you are someone KFC does not like or you are too picky/ know it all already…. Lots of Difficult students out there. Buy a plane, is your only option if you are looking to hire a guy. Otherwise suck it up or hit the road. Oh you could go fly ultralights. A few clubs in the area.
Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
Just to clarify, you cannot hire a freelance instructor if you do not own a plane (or have a family member that does), so that isn't an option for you. FTU is your only option. If you can't work out something with an FTU in Kingston, you will have to hit the road, or buy a plane, as others have said. Perhaps you can split a plane with someone in a similar boat in the area.turnfighter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 12:06 pmI do not have an aircraft. I would be open to an FTU. Good luck.

Hey,
Are you still looking for an instructor or an FTU?

Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
i got an instructor, but no FTU. Is whatever i assume you’re referencing certified for training?
Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
Yeah, im just finishing up my instructor rating and the FTU im at can help you finish your PPL quickly.
I can be your instructor too
Its in nova scotia, if you’re interested in moving here just for training, accommodation is provided too.
Depending on where you are at your training, could try to get it done in 2 to 3 months.

For instructors working in schools — also feel free to drop your contacts in this group. It’s a great way to fill your after hours time!
