Great to hear. I would have thought the opposite due to the job market and cost of living.
Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
Bunch of boomers retiring and going "what are we gonna do with all this time and money?"
Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
“Winning”
And just remember when you look at US per capita GDP and average wages…. wealth inequality is massively higher south of the border.
For every Delta pilot making half a mill a year (for now)… there’s a lot of skilled US workers making less than the Canadian average wage.
My last trip to the US was an eye opener. Like whenever I get down to the “Walmar” locales I always expect a general degradation of articulation and cognitive function but going into Waffle house was like being on set in Idiocracy.

That's a great point. We're in a good industry to cash in on the boomer bucks. Many of them are traveling constantly. Hopefully the Instagramers will also continue that trend and continue to chase international travel experiences. The death of the middle class is a little worrying though.

The middle class can't afford to buy homes anymore, so no point saving up for downpayments, and more money left over for travelDry Guy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:24 amThat's a great point. One has to remember that the Golden Age of Hollywood was built upon the Depression where people were broke but could afford 5c for the movie theatre to escape.safetyfirst123 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 4:11 amThe middle class can't afford to buy homes anymore, so no point saving up for downpayments, and more money left over for travelDry Guy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 09, 2025 1:24 amThat's a great point. Same as today where Boomers think that $1000 iPhones are the reason younger generations can’t afford $1,000,000 plus houses.

Housing is gonna collapse once the boomers start moving into retirement homes and dying. They'll flood the market with homes few people can afford. Lots of supply, little demand, prices go down.
People also want to travel. Boomers and the silent generation spent so much time and money on appearances. Gotta have the silver servingwear, gotta have the fancy house, with extra useless rooms. Younger generations don't want that. They'd rather have experiences. Do that trip to Mexico, Europe, Asia, wherever. Travel and having fun is more important than displaying the expensive silver serving tray in a dining room cabinet that nobody is allowed to touch.
Even once the 3000 sq ft house price collapses, people will still want the 1500 sq ft house with enough left over money to travel and have fun.

If I were into travel experiences, I would live in a condo, lock the door and go. My wife and I talked about moving in to a condo for retirement travel but how will I sell my big fancy house if no one wants it?goingnowherefast wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 5:07 am Housing is gonna collapse once the boomers start moving into retirement homes and dying. Everyone likes to blame the boomers, immigration drove prices to unaffordable levels not boomers, fact!
Those extra rooms are where my kids stay when they come to visit, if the younger generation doesn’t want all the space, I assume they don’t plan on having a family.

Old Boomer here…..
Can someone give me a reasonable explanation with examples why I had it so good in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. Honestly I would like to know and understand where I f*cked up during those far back decades and how my f*ckup led to the detriment of the younger named generation group.

GenX here, I apparently had it good too and squandered it, oh the plight of the younger generation these days, must be so hard.Old fella wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 8:47 pm Old Boomer here…..

To the above two space cadets, it's not our job to teach you to use what's left of your brain. Go and pull up how much flight training costs, how much entry level salaries are, and how much housing costs where airlines are based. Do the math, and determine if you could have the luxurious life you currently have if you started today.
I've done this so many times with boomer colleagues and it's hilarious to watch their arrogance blow up in their face in real time as they realize they couldn't even afford rent if they started out today. Grow up.
Also, housing prices dropping is a pipe dream as long as Canada has millions of the world's poor flooding in faster than any other country in history. We're headed for chaos, and no amount of delusional thinking can stop this train.

GenX,Y,Z Millennials,Boomers, Golden Years…… the Shit is always the same, sometimes there is more shit, sometimes less shit. At some point shit will be harder other times it will be softer. The Smell never Changes.
When you pop out and open your eyes for the first time only Guarantee Given is,at some point in the course of your lifetime you Will Die - everything else is half chance.
Get over it, quit the whining and live your life. Be thankful you got this far, many didn’t.
By your leave.

Because the boomers had the most golden economic times yes still pushed the gov into deficit’s including supporting the current government the most of any demographic.
Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
This part I really can’t understand, why is the older generation supporting the liberals and their punishments policies?
Is it the guilt the younger generation have pushed on them about the environment? For years and years, millennials have told us we fucked the environment and there are plenty of studies showing they are willing to spend more on products that are environmentally friendly, well guess what, you are spending more on products due to liberal carbon schemes!

As a millenial, I get to save money by not paying for comedy shows and simply getting my humour from such takes as the victim blaming we see above.cdnavater wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 11:47 amThis part I really can’t understand, why is the older generation supporting the liberals and their punishments policies?

Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
Hate to break it to you, I borrowed 56k(130k today)to get my licence(living expenses included), my first job paid 18k(37k today) and I had three roommates because I couldn’t afford to eat and pay rent if not. I also had to borrow my parents car until I could afford a shitbox used car. My very first brand new vehicle wasn’t until 2007, for reference that is mid 30s, never whined to anyone about that! And before you say anything about the price of cars these days, this vehicle cost more than what I paid for my first house, at that time I was driving a very old car.Red_Comet wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 5:41 am To the above two space cadets, it's not our job to teach you to use what's left of your brain. The problem with your generation is you are too soft, god forbid you couldn’t afford to have your own place starting out!
As Old fella said, every generation had to deal with shit, it always stinks and whining won’t change it, grow and pair!(paraphrasing)

Reasonable points cdnavater.
FFS, we all paid for our flying training, certainly wasn’t free. To boot, all of us in some form did what you had to do. We can’t help if such costs for flight training are what they are now , no more than I can bitch about the cost of a basic FWD Crossover($40k+).
Another point conveniently left out, the unprecedented Airline Pilot jobs available (starting with the Flag Carrier and all way down) to this generation over past few years and seems to be continuing in some form. I mean let this generation feel free to remind me how good the flying jobs and availability were in the ‘70s and ‘80s especially during the terrible recession when Interest Rates were through the roof. Like I said all Generations get and will get splattered with shit.
Anyway enough of this old shit from this old boomer.

Yes, I have a hard time walking away from ridiculous comments, my dad walked uphill both ways to school and I had to walk through 12’ of snow to get to school, FFS they built a new development literally across the street from a school but because there is no sidewalk, the kids take the bus for 500 meters to get to school, I wish a was exaggerating!Old fella wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 1:18 pm Reasonable points cdnavater.

Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
Still haven't seen a cost of living breakdown from our boomer friends comparing their youth to now. I'm still waiting. You can also just go on youtube and watch the thousands of videos made by experts on this matter instead of sounding off. But I'll give you brainiacs the benefit of the doubt.
I'm willing to be proven wrong once you can provide that inflation adjusted cost of living comparison. But until then, I'll go with all the experts and the countless young people I personally know currently struggling to survive.

Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
If you had a coherent argument, we could discuss it but you are the one who mentioned how much it costs for flight training, to which I responded with my costs vs today and it’s basically the same! My starting salary was lower than today’s starting salary however, I didn’t start at an airline so I wasn’t in the big cities.Red_Comet wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 6:57 am Still haven't seen a cost of living breakdown from our boomer friends comparing their youth to now. If the salary isn’t to your satisfaction and the costs of housing is too much, go North, those companies would love to have you I’m sure and your buying power for housing is much better, see, I solved your problem!
Re: US Air Travel Down, Overall Air Travel Up.
You reaped all the benefits of high taxes, massive infrastructure investment, strong labour, cheap education, and housing growth that your parents generation graciously handed to you. You were born into the post-war boom and benefited from the strongest middle class and upward mobility in history. Then when your earnings peaked you proceeded to cut taxes, kneecap social spending and tear down everything that gave you all those opportunities. You pulled up the ladder for the next generation and have continued to leach all the wealth created since.Old fella wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 8:47 pm Old Boomer here…..

There are several alarming reports right now showing that for the first time in history men aged 65+ are out-earning men 25-34 years old. I hope I don't need to explain to your demented self why it's really fucking bad to have retired people earning more than those of prime working age. The younger generations are royally fucked and boomers, as a whole, continue to do everything in their power to hoard and prevent any transfer of wealth and opportunities to their children. You have not only stolen your children's future but are now stealing from their children as well.
You are the most selfish, greedy, immoral, egocentric, downright evil and disgusting pigs in modern history. It's going to take a century to recover from all the damage you have caused to society and the human race will be immeasurably better off when you're all rotting in the ground.
How's that?
