Skycare

Post by Torontoroger »

Has anyone has any recent or past experience working for skycare?

Understand you have to work the ramp first.
Question for those who have.
How long have you had to work the ramp before becoming an FO on one of the planes? I have heard over 6 months.

Understand it’s a salary position. Typically this means working way more hours than expected with no overtime pay.
As others found this to be true?

Job duties as ramp worker.
Have read is pretty much includes anything and everything aviation and non-aviation related.

Consider considering sending in a résumé, but would love to hear from others that have worked there.

Thanks

Worked there not to long ago..
Salary pay and is about $41,000 a year.
You will most likely have to work in Kitchener for six months or longer as ground help when you first start before flying.
Typically work is 10 days on at 10 hours per day, then five days off cycles.

10 hours per day is just a suggestion, though, not uncommon to work 12 hours a day. No extra pay though as you are Salary.

Your duties include, when you first start, pretty much everything from getting coffee, cleaning the toilets/bathrooms, to helping maintain the airplanes. Pretty much everything’s fair game though when you’re on the clock, even personal errands for management.
If you have your own car … that helps as you will need it for going from Hager to hanger or running errands.

If you can manage this, well, there is a promise of flying one of the aircraft in the end. The choice is yours.

Use your own car, while working personal errands for management and scrubbing the shitter. Working 2600hrs per year and $41k salary. Pretty sure that's below minimum wage, and breaks labour laws. At the end of it all, you get to fly a poorly maintained Navajo with an absurd bond.

No wonder there's still a pilot shortage. Being an actual janitor pays a lot better, and you won't have to use your own car.

Tell me you're exaggerating! This would be comical in 2000; in 2025, you should be institutionalized if you think that is normal.

This sounds like hell but realistically is there anything better right now where you're still in civilization?

Somewhere you can do more than just hunt and fish on your days off?

So places like St. John's, Fort McMurray, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Prince George all count?

Plenty of jobs in places like that.

Skycare doesn't have a base in any of those places either. That's a relief. One can still start out their ramp career without running management's errands in their personal car for less than minimum wage.

I'm very grateful cpl420 posted such an open and blunt review of working there. Keep potential new hires aware of what goes on.

As someone who’s currently living near Kitchener, all those places sure sound more interesting.

Absolutely disgusting. Anyone going there knowing this deserves it. Sorry you had to go through this abuse going in without having any clue what expected you. Hopefully you left within a month after seeing this. Canadian aviation industry is a sickening 3rd world country.
