Looking for opinions for Multi + IFR flight school

Post by taro »

Hello,

I'm looking to start my multi and group 1 IFR training at a flight school in the GTHA. I've called up a few and can't really seem to pick. They all provide similar prices, and the only major difference between them is how far I need to drive and if I feel like I will be prioritized.

Brampton Flight Centre is about 25 minutes from my house, but I'm worried they have a lot of students and the integrated program that they prioritize so I won't be able to finish my ratings as fast as I hope. They also have a 4-6 month waitlist apparently. And I am afraid they have their own, weird, internal policies that slow students down, like WWFC. Can someone confirm?

Island Air is about 50 minutes from my house, but I'm also worried they have a lot of students. They have a one month wait (acceptable). But no simulators so I'll have to either build my 40 instrument hours in a plane (expensive) or do instrument ground time at Waterloo (where I am currently training for my CPL).

Near North Aviation is really far, about 80 minutes from my house, but they have no waitlist, few students, so I can book as much as I want. Apparently they have simulators too so I can also build my 40 instrument hours efficiently.

I'm looking for your opinions on these schools. I don't mind driving to Near North if I can guarantee I can finish my ratings in 2-3 months, and they seem quite pleasant over the phone. I would totally pick them if I was closer, but the drive is just very very long.

Please share your experience if you have or are completing multi and IFR at these schools.

At Near North you can have the twin Seneca as much as you want right now as there is no wait list and the multi instructor is free. The Seneca is nicely equipped and you can fly as much as you want .

For anyone that wants to train for the multi or multi IFR as well as the private and commercial there is a lot of a availability.
