QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Commercial Pilots Licence with a minimum of 500+ hours - Floatplane Rating with a minimum of 50+ hours on floats. 100 hours floats with 50 already on a beaver is preferred - Valid water egress certificate, strong, happy and healthy, functional written and conversational English would be the starting point ...
Must be physically fit to load and unload bags /boxes and propane /motors routinely up to 50 pounds (often more) and dock aircraft solo in high winds. We do not have dock staff at remote locations, so pilots and dockhands need moderate physical strength as well as pilot docking skills to safely dock the airplanes.
Additional consideration will be given to pilots with mechanical and/or carpentry skills. As part of the pilot training program, we will teach you basic skills re propane appliances, outboard motors and generators, woodworking, as well as how to teach guests how to operate cabin equipment.
You will be required to load/unload passengers and equipment in and out of the aircraft, sometimes solo but usually with the help of other staff or guests. 70%+ of your work week will involve loading/unloading passengers/equipment, working at the camps, and teaching the guests how to operate the cottages.
WHO WE ARE AS A COMPANY: Air Ivanhoe
We operate (3) DHC-2 Beavers and (1) Cessna-180 floatplane in our operation. Two of the DHC-2 beavers and the one Cessna are 100% dual controls.
Air Ivanhoe is an outfitter operation that primarily works with fisherman, and brings them into 25+ different lakes/waterbodies. 99% of our flying is within 40 miles of our seaplane base, so there will be numerous take off and landings per day, and because of the short flights, we can usually predict and avoid marginal weather flights. Lots of airtime, lots of take offs and landings, awesome experience, and different experience every day.
Page 3 of the brochure will give you an idea regarding the cottages and lakes you will be visiting during your season.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Arrive May 1 - Stay and work with us until about Oct 15, 2025. We require the availability of pilots for 5 (or sometimes possibly 6 days a week), and the 2 days off a week will typically be Monday through Thursday and typically be consecutive. On your days off, you will have the opportunity to resupply food in Timmins (100 KM from our seaplane base) and enjoy the wilderness. There is lots of fridge / freezer space available in your accommodations.
We can review additional days off (if requested) provided that we have enough staff to support additional time off if you want to work less hours.
During the May 1 to October 15 timeframe, pilots can take up to 2 weeks of unpaid holidays if we have the staff to cover the time off (generally we do). Preferably only one weekend (Friday / Saturday / Sunday) so plan an extended trip leaving Sunday afternoon and returning 12 days later and a few extra days to play with as you wish....
WAGES/SALARY: Salary to be discussed based on previous aviation and non-aviation (handyman) experience. Total salary ranges between $8,500 - 10,000 / month (based on 50 hours per week) plus free accommodations with your own private bedroom, free staff access to boats / motors on our main lake for personal enjoyment, and a few family fish fry's a month. It is a paid by the hour position, and pilots generally will max out the 48 hours / week duty time set by Transport Canada for consecutive work weeks. 48 hours per week is guaranteed to be available. If you want to take a week off, and work some extra hours in the preceding weeks, we can accommodate this as long as the Transport Canada duty time rules are met.
FLYING TIME: DHC-2 Beaver Pilots usually log 10 - 15 hours per week of flight time. This would mainly be PIC time, although there will be some dual time especially at the start of our season when we are setting up cottages.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
We operate staff quarters with multiple bedrooms. Each staff member has their own private bedroom with a shared kitchen, living room, and dining room. There is free onsite laundry, as well as TV and high speed internet. Plenty of refrigeration and and freezer space.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Theriault family has been actively training floatplane pilots and operating in the fly in outpost cottage
business since the early 1950's. Our focus is the continued safe flights in out of our remote outpost cabins, and a quality
outpost cottage experience for the guests. As a floatplane pilot with Air Ivanhoe you will be part of a small team along side with the family owners, and will need to take an attitude of "Everything and Anything is my job".
Please email us your resume if you would like to join the team. Everyday will be a new adventure.
