Low time hiring prospects for the next year?

Post by lostav8r »

I’ve been checking PCC and the jobs ads for the past few months and don’t really see anything for low hour people. I posted earlier how the number of “graduates” is nearly double the historic norm while 705 hiring has basically stopped along with fleet deliveries.

Not sure if I’m being overly pessimistic but seems like unless you know someone the chances of getting a job is very slim, even schools are refusing to train new instructors for the most part!

Lots of unemployed fresh CPLs for sure. I personally think 2026 will pick up slightly based on anedoctal experince but I think best bet is still "the roadtrip"

From what I hear it's not just low time. The whole pipeline has ground to a halt as a result of airlines no longer hiring.

We're seeing new instructors on road trips from the other side of the country handing our resumes. Not a great outlook given economic conditions are only going to get worse.

How the hell are flight schools still not only full but have months or years long waitlists?

Entire classes of people are suddenly now able to afford air travel. In other countries I mean. Here the classes are sliding downwards in buying power.

As mentioned above, mostly foreign students. Some FTUs have basically become foreign pilot training programs exclusively. Also, the bottleneck is not instructors, but serviceable aircraft. There is a limited number of training aircraft available, and an even more limited number of licensed AMEs available to service them.

All this means there is a glut of pilots at all experience levels pre-ATPL.

If you look at transport Canada‘s licensing statistics, even the number of ATPL issued is almost double it it used to be every single year
